Is it just me?...

...or is this "retrospect" thing getting on anyone elses nerves. I just looked at a couple of shots of the new Camaro and in the front it looks like an old Mustang II, in the rear, a 'Cuda. What in the hell is going on?...

Front Pic
Rear Pic

Am I the only one?

That's not the new Camaro and the 5th Gen probably won't be retro. That's just someones concept.

What ever the hell it is, it's just plain ugly. Alot of people need to stop begging GM for a retro Camaro another 69 Z28 is not what everyone wants.

Styling is subjective, one mans palace is another's poison.

As long as more people like Camaro's styling than the Mustang's, it really doesn't matter if it's retro, futuristic, or a stage coach.

My Dear Sir,
I do not want to tolerate another man's poison, no matter how popular it is. I want a car that I can buy and still admire 10-15-20 years after it left the factory. Not something that was cute last week and looks as tired and used up as a 54yr old street walker.

It's just you.

Although Kris Horton's concept isn't going to be the next Camaro, it is a great looking retro-homage vehicle.

.

It's funny how defensive and agry some people get about retro designs. It seems only the anti-retro folks are very vocal about it while those that seem to like it don't go around being all "anti-evolutionary." Might just be me though. I try to keep up with the feedback to my Camaro concept, so I guess I just see a lot more of the negative responses. If I could do it over again, I'd try to take a more modern approach. I don't have any free time on my hands right now but have told people on this board that I will work on one as soon as I get a chance...

To each their own.

Hey...no offense meant! Didn't even know you were on here. Just was surfing and happen to come across it on a performance site. I appologize if you were offended. I grew up in that era ('Cudas, Super Bees, GTX's, etc.) and owned both a Mustang II and a 'Cuda. When I saw the pics, I though that someone just combined the front cap of a Mustang II and married it to a 'Cuda roof, quarters, trunk and rear. That's the first impression that I got. I just commented on my feeling since I owned both and didn't see a future Camaro in that design. On the other hand, the mix was well done and the seams flowed flawlessly. Just not my choice of a GM product that resembled a Ford/Plymouth hybrid...
Again, if you were offended, I am truly sorry...
I am not a designer, nor would attempt to design a car. Kudos for your work...just not a Camaro in my eyes....

That would depend on the car. The mustang I think looks good that camaro concept looks good but then you look at the gto or the malibu and think huh? what were they thinking.

LOL, you for real? Every classic "timeless" car designed was a "TrendyPop" for one or another class of individuals. Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, Corvette, etc...the list goes on. If you want a car you can buy and admire years from now, then you won't be buying a new car unless you're incredibly rich. Because nothing produced today that's affordable to us "lower class" people will be worth much in 20 years. So, enlighten us as to what kind of car you'd wish to purchase that isn't "cute", "tired" and "used up". And please, try to stay within the realm of reality.

No problem

Cajun-Z,

I wasn't offended by your comments at all. I just wanted to let you know that I'm trying to listen to any feedback pertaining to my work. Unlike a lot of artists, I'm not very set in my ways and I really like to hear any suggestions that are constructive. There are always people who don't like my designs, that's a fact of life. At times I kick myself for doing a retro design, but who knew that a lot of people thought so negatively about it? In te end I have no regrets really, I think it's been a good learning experience thus far.

Hehe, I do kind of pity the GM designers that are responsible for the next Camaro, they have a lot of people to please and it will be tough. From what I've been hearing though, they will most certainly try to get it "just right" before we see anything though.

The Marque that I most admire for brand recognition (in terms of the car actually being recognizable for what it is, and not just because of the bling-factor associated with the name) would have to be Porsche. Dont confuse what Im talking about with retro.

Almost every Porsche (ones that didnt pull it off that come to mind include the 914 and 928) is instantly recognizable as such. Even the freaking Cayenne, love it or hate it. The marque has always known what it was, in terms of styling. (Till recently anyways.)

I think if GM could pull off even a tenth of that, they'd be well off. Thats something that could be a HUGE help to any mainstream company that could pull it off today.

Just my two cents.

You mean no cars have been "retro" until the 05 Mustang or the "TrendyPop" part? Because you're wrong on both parts. I actually don't think the 05 Mustang is all that retro. BTW, You can put the U in Mustang, you won't burst into flames or anything. After all, if you own a Camaro, you're driving a car that started out as a copy of the Mustang...
