Jan 06 GM did better than........

In january, GM did better than everyone, by a long shot. So not sure why they feelthey need to lose even more market share.

Gm....................... 390,000 sales
Ford..................... 269,000
DCX..................... 183,000
Toyota................. 140,000
Honda ................. 115,000
Nissan.................. 100,000
VW...................... 36,000
Hyundai................ 20,000 (sonata only)
Subaru................. 9,000
Mitsu................... 6,500

Obviously not every maker is listed, but kind of puts things into perspective.

Is there a breakdown of how much of what was sold...just curious.
Wondering how much the new models are stimulating sales.

90roc click the link in the second post.

Zigroid, no breakdown on that, though personally I don't think it'd be pretty.

According to Motor Trend, Toyota is going to ramp up production 15% in 2006 and take over the #1 spot in worldwide sales with over 9 million.

Toyota is pushing for the #1 spot and I think there quality is going to suffer because of it.

Will GM be able to counter it?

If toyota does take number one from GM, I predict the quality will go down even further. Their time as number one will be short and they will never be there again.

I agree. Maybe he meant that Toyota would decrease in quality with added sales.

Yeah, I meant toyota. I think their quality is slowly slipping now. Itll only get worse the more volume they do. As for GM, the quality of all the products is going up!! Just look at the new Tahoe, thats a winner!

Toyota too seems to be begining to relay heavily on cheaper labor and outsourcing. Which inevitably means a "cheaper" lower quality product. They will soon feel the pinch of a retiring workforce too, it'll be interesting how they deal with domestics on a more level playing field.

GM will likely gain sales in 2006, maybe not in NA they don't really have anything to fear there, but definately overseas. GME is finally running pretty well and GM China is taking off like a barn stormer! Also lets remember to say thanks to Daewoo in a few years as they are becoming an integral part of GM Global.

well they had more sales globally than anyone else by a long shot, so they are still pretty safe.

Re: Jan 06 GM did better than........

I was just at Toyota for work and they are worried about quality going down as supply increases. They seemed like they are going to be persistent to keep quality though.
I think the most interesting thing I heard from Toyota was that they think there will be 3 major players in the world of automotive. 1) GM 2) Toyota and the 3rd is not yet reared it's head.
Get this, they also talked about how good GM's quality has become.
