ITS OFFICIAL -MAZDA admits power deficiency in the NEW RX8!!

interesting read - http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9347

I guess its legally allowed for a car company to have a 5% deviation in advertised HP numbers so Mazda stated that 238hp was not that far off from 250hp. Some are thinking that the actual HP is 5% less then the revised 238HP and that would make it more like 227 HP.

OUCH!!!!

If they are only 238hp, then I would have to imagine that the performance figures in the magazines were either made up by the publication or the magazines recieved a "special" RX8s.

Well its a small, lightweight car. I could see it pulling mid 14s with 238hp and the handling still wont change. What should change though, but wont is a slight price drop.

I wonder if they inflated the HP ratings by accident, or did they do it to make it seem like they are so "high tech" with thier rotorty powerplant as if to say: "Look at us, we got this much HP out of this little motor and it has just as much power as the old RX-7 but without turbos". You would think that Mazda would watch out for this more after artificially inflating the power ratings of the Miata. I think there was another one too, but I can't remember.

I knew that engine sucked from day one, gas milage isn't to good on that egine either, it should be a lot higher for a 3000lbs. car.

If Mazda was smart they would dump that engine and and put in the 220HP V6 from the mazda 6. or I guess they would use the 232HP from the Lincon LS since it is already setup for RWD

Mazda will not be revising hte engine because the car stil meets the performance goals: 1/4 mile in 14.5 and 0-60 in 5 to 6 secs.

Even Nissan's SE-R Sentra runs a quicker 1/4 mile!!! Oh well. It still has the handling, but not too many people are pleased.

If I was looking at that class of car I would have to go with the 350z hands down. I had a 300Z TT and it was a great daily driver and an awesome road car for long trips.

Too bad most people can't fit in the car while wearing a helmet, which is inexcusible for a car that's presumably intended for competition use.

From what I've heard, the Cobra issue was caused by a last minute change. Something about flattening the Y-pipe or intermeadiate pipe to fit around another change and there wasn't testing done afterwards.....

There were a few last-minute design and process changes that affected the power output, which is why engineers fear and hate last-minute changes.

Supplier's helped SVT screw that up.SVT didnt do a final check to make sure the suppliers were making the parts in spec.

JOE K.

There isnt a Y pipe on a Mustang!
The exhaust was part of the problem but their were engine problems too.The intake was the BIGGEST part of the problem. Also other things..
