Interesting take on GM (and Toyota) on Hybrids and such....
Caps, you really need to do more research on ethanol. It's been debated on this forum many times so I'm not going to rehash it here, but suffice it to say it's not like you can put your trash in a machine and ethanol comes out the other end. Even with corn the best estimates are there's maybe 20% new energy in a gallon of ethanol. Then there's the whole issue of whether we want to tie our energy dependence to one of our main sources of food. Can you imagine what would happen if we were dependent on corn ethanol for our transportation as well as our food, then some kind of disease wipes out the corn crops?
It wouldnt hurt if GM had some good hybrid-type cars on the lots to go along with this hidden internet article though...
You can't blame consumers for thinking that Toyota is a green company.
GM has taken into 2 alternatives and helping the situation with its E85 campaign (but is that really going to help anything??) and its commercials about its 30+mpg vehicles it offers.
If GM really is spending billions upon billions in tech that is going to surpass all, then THAT is what they need to also advertise. I hear there is a Super Bowl and college football Championship game coming up....

Yes please do keep it up! I don't know one single person, who has ever even heard of the busses GM has out there,.......not one. And further, if I mention yota's massive recalls, same story there. Yet GM has a recall, or any trouble what-so-ever, and everyone and their brother knows all about how, "GM is going out of business", the bias is just ridiculous. And if it didn't **** me off so much, I guess It'd be funny, but its not. It's actually pretty sickening, how many Americans can just turn their backs on GM, and just accept yota as the new American brand..........well not ME, I never will. Sorry for the rant guys, but if ever there was a topic that gets me steamed it's the media, and how they treat GM. I was great to hear from Scott again, I was getting a little worried myself!
welll......perhaps this tells you something about media bias????
In several press events over the past couple of years, we've actually SHOWN the busses......................................
..................hmmmmmmmmmmm.
FWIW, diesel-electric hybrid buses are a big deal here in San Francisco among the greenies. (The real greenies, not the latte-drinking Prius drivers.) About half of the system is hydro-electric powered with overhead lines, but there is a big push to replace the diesel busses with something more environmental.
But, I think DCX got the contract, not GM.

Toyota needs to be taken down a notch or three. They have this teflon reputation, but with their recent recalls (one of which, if memory serves me correctly, was supposed to have been enacted years ago but the problem was covered up by the management so they didn't look like they had any problems) and their lineup of trucks and SUV's that are just as gas-guzzling as the worst American brand truck, PLUS the fact that gas-electric hybrids are nothing more than a temporary stopgap for fuel problems should have made a dent in their rep. But unfortunately, the general public has no knowledge of such things, and the car mags will pretty much NEVER say anything bad about Toyota, no matter how bland and unexciting their vehicles are. Someone needs to bring the facts to the public. I nominate GM to go on an advertising blitz that really takes it to Toyota's negative aspects
BAE Systems sells the competing hybrid drive system. I think you find them in the Orions (owned by DCX these days).
There's another hybrid system from ISE Corporation. They use a Ford V10 gasoline engine, and have become popular in California cities where they're not allowed to buy diesel and CNG is too expensive (requires a special fueling system).
But I agree with the general thrust of this thread. Toyota really has been getting a free pass!
