Wow! I think I've found a new link to watch.

It's long, but it's well worth reading. A few highlights, for people who don't have the time:

1. When will GM stop benchmarking to other brands re interior quality, fit, etc.? They need to leapfrog them, not try to catch up. The repeated mantra of "go big or don't go at all" should be tatooed on EVERY GM manager's forehead.

2. German cars are dropping out of reliability/satisfaction surveys because of their ridiculously complex electronics. Dealers are having nightmares working on them. Customers are pissed. Imagine buying a current 745 in 10 years and trying to keep the iDrive working!

3. A good case can be made for Porsche killing itself with Cayenne and upcoming sedan(?!?). A similar case can be made for VW and the Phaeton(?!), W8 (?), Toureg (???!!!).

4. BMW design is headed by a seriously delusional pothead who is channeling the spirit of Michaelangelo. This explains the 745, Z4, new 6 series.

5. Three underlying messages: (1) If you don't shoot the moon, don't bother. New cars need to be seriously, seriously great, if they are made at all. (2) Complexity is the enemy of everything--cars need to drop all the gimcrackery and $5 integrated-circuit microprocessor-BS-tricks and concentrate on doing what they do very well. (3) If you start eating your own marketing dogfood (Porsche, VW, BMW), it will all be over, very quickly.
