Interesting poll results on AOL about the Camaro/Firebird
There is a poll going on at AOL concerning the loss of the Camaro and Firebird. Specificaly, it asks "Are you sad to see the Firebird and Camaro be discontinued?". Out of over 47,000 respondants, the overwhelming response has been YES (66.9%). This is over 4 times the number of people who answered no (16.6%). 15.7% said they didn't care, and .8% said they didn't know. Granted this only reflects the views of those people choosing to participate, not the car buying public in general, but better than 4 to 1 in favor of is impressive.
Could it be that the general public, and not just the hardcore enthusiasts, still want this car? It may be that they just can't live with the limitations of the current car, and therefore aren't buying. But it does seem encouraging to see such a favorable response. Frankly, I was expecting to see alot of indifference, or at the very least, a much closer gap between the yes's and the no's. Maybe the public's perception isn't as anti-performance as GM thought!

Any car that's been around 10 years without change is going to die out. I am certain that if Camaro had been kept fresh & advertized in the way it's competitor has, we'd be in a different position today.
I don't really buy into the limitations view, although I once did, because as recently as 1997, the F-Bodies were slightly ahead of Mustang in sales. The drop off began with the Mustang redesign in '99, which also happens to be when advertizing for Camaro ended.

I wouldn't be too excited about this poll, as it is likely biased. People who really love camaros and people who hate them are more likely to take the time to vote then people who don't care about them at all. This poll doesn't represent the general population in my opinion.
