You don't mean production Vettes I take, right? I ask because with the new LS2 Vette hitting 186mph, I don't recall any ZR1 getting this high or higher. I do remember them hitting in the 180's, but not 186.

Oh, one more thingy... The fastest small block powered, naturally aspirated Corvette on the planet is an LT5 car.

The LT-5 is not a Small block by any means. It shares one demention with the SBC. GM tried to put DOCH heads on a SBC but Lotus/GM/Mercury Marine did a ground up motor that shared not one single part with any SBC. It even had a differnt ECM than other chevys.

The LT5 was always considered a small block. Not a 'small block Chevrolet', but always a 'small block'. A Rat short block is physically much larger than even an LT5.

I'm not 100% positive, but i think it goes like this.
4.6 Sohc: 473lbs
4.6 Dohc: 521lbs
S/c 4.6 Dohc: 672lbs

Looking up the specs for the 5.7 Lt-5, i found 600lbs. So if the Ls-2 is 255lbs lighter, that'd make it 345lbs. That's a good 50lbs lighter than even the Ls1. Impressive.

It is. They cloned the runners.

Which would make for a neat T-shirt for GM fans:

The New Chrysler Hemi...

An LS2 without all that annoying power.

the more telling metric there is the 5.7L Hemi makes 390lb-ft in it's "pedestrian" form. for the best years of the LS1 in the Vette it made at MOST 375lb-ft and 350hp. So the Hemi gives up 10hp, but it has 15lb-ft to spare on the LS1. So no, that's about as funny as it is true.

The fact that DC did copy a lot of the LS1 design can't be disputed though.

Re: Interesting LSx factoid...

I'll take the extra HP thanks...that extra tq is at peak tq...which is low enough that it isn't going to be much help at all rocketing down the dragstrip.

But I guess it would make the car "feel" peppier to the stoplight racer crowd...unless the added weight of the motor cancels all that out, in which case it is irrelevant.

Re: Interesting LSx factoid...

It's all irrelevant, because Chrysler hasnt really released a Hemi yet that is a good comparison to the LS1/2. More like a comparison to the Gen III 6.0L, to which it compares very well.

Anyone that's driven a Hemi Magnum, Ram, or 300C can tell you that while powerful as all hell, the Hemi doesnt act like a true performance mill, because it's not. Its a more mainstream type motor. The 6.1 is what I would use to compare to the LS2.

Not trying to bash GM here, just trying to give Mopar their shot.

The runners look similar to the cathedral intake port that the GenIII/IV uses. Of course, the angles are all different (the intake manifold ports are paralell to the ground, and the cylinder head ports point straight up), and the Hemi, whether you think it is one or not, uses canted valves. But hell, GM hit on a badass runner design, and Im all for Chrysler using it as a base to make more power in their own cars. Thats what LS7 is for.

Maybe Ford could even use it in "Hurricane," instead of that horrible thing they call an intake runner in the 4.6s...
