Interesting Comment in HRM

I was looking at Hot Rod's creation of a new 69 Camaro Vert called Hot Rod 1. They were gunna put Camaro: Hot Rod 1 on the rear pannel, but they ran into some problems. it says here that, "When the guys finally got it right just before SEMA, word came down that GM wouldn't not allow them to call it Camaro."

??? Why not? I guess they didnt want a Camaro name to go on it, in fear of losing the name much like Ford did with GT40 and Futura?

Re: Interesting Comment in HRM

Its a completely brand new aftermarket car . Not coming from GM itself , at a show like SEMA , I could see where they wouldnt want a Camaro name on it . In essense , while not trying take away the cool factor , its like a kit car imo

No mystery here.

GM has copyrighted the name "Camaro". No one can use it in a business enterprise without permission from GM or without paying GM a fee or royalties.

That's all.

Re: Interesting Comment in HRM

If the car was made from a real camaro the story would be different

Well, they must have some sort of deal, since GM gave them the go on reproduction of the body. I didnt think it was anything crazy, but why would GM approve a Camaro kit car, and not allow it to be called Camaro.

That car looked like a 69 Camaro to me, customized. But a 69 Camaro nevertheless. What else would it be called?

Look at the Shelby Cobra Kit cars!! They aren't called Cobra's. Its probably just copyright reasons like guionM pointed out.

Actually, in addition to that, were the legal issues of proper registration. A fender is one thing, a complete body shell is something else all together...requires some sort of VIN.

Also, GM licenses quality reproduction parts to many aftermarket companies and with this license come the responsibility to build the highest quality reproduction parts. The early examples of these bodies were not quite at that level. Through the license proceedure, that was fixed.

Plus Dynacorn doesn't have the best reputation for quality in some circles.
