Instead of "cars" or "trucks" Chevy will promote "Chevrolet".

I found this line interesting:

"Chevrolet sells its highly successful trucks with the tag line "Like a rock" and its less-successful cars with "We'll be there."

Chevy hasn't had a good tag line since "The Heartbeat of America".

I remember seeing TONS of shirts and jackets with the "Heartbeat" logo on them back in the day... I owned one of each my self.

I can't picture wearing a "Genuine Chevrolet" (though I did see a few of these, but very very few, like one or two) or "We'll Be There" jacket though...

There was an ad campaign in the early-mid '80s that was cool.

I remember someone posted a pic of one of the magazine ads right here.

It was something like "USA-1 Chevrolet, taking charge".

Anyone have a link to that?

I still have my "Heartbeat of America" T-shirt - I got it as a birthday present nearly 12 years ago and it's still doing pretty well. I miss that ad theme, for some reason - it seemed stupid then and it still seems a bit corny, but damn if it didn't make me proud to be a Chevy fan.

I vaguely remember the USA-1 ad campaign - a couple plastic model kits that I built in the early-/mid-80s came with license-plate decals with that theme. How's that for a childhood memory?

The whole "Like a Rock" thing just got overplayed - it wasn't bad or good, just everywhere and in-your-face every time a commercial break came on. And the "We'll Be There"? What it that supposed to mean?

It sure beats "we'll be there" or the "road to redemption"

While I'm at it.........

Just want to post this ad......in case the topic comes up again.

The Z in IROC-Z does stand for Z/28.

I had the "USA-1 Chevrolet, taking charge" license plate on my 68 RS. It was designed on the 60's era plate and ad campaign "USA-1 Chevrolet, See America 1st".

I wish I'd have kept the "Taking Charge" plate, because you don't see them around any more.

Some (if not all, not sure) C4 Corvettes have "USA-1" embossed into the rear license plate holder plastic...

It's hidden when the plate is installed.

Interesting reading, that ad - the general message is really damn close to today's "Road to Redemption" campaign; basically "please, take me back - I've changed!" Good thing most advertising campaigns aren't all that memorable, or else people might start noticing that the latest line of BS is really recycled from 20 years ago.
