Why do you hate Mustang?

Did it steal your wife?
Did it kick your dog?
Did it screw you out of money?
Did it insult your family?

Wouldn't it be cool if we knew the age and demi-g of the guys who post things like "I hate Mustang" or "I will never buy a Ford"?

My interest here is what age group has typically become "pony car/muscle car lovers" regardless of make or model, and what age is typically "my car is the mostest awesomest and all other cars sux!".

I CONFESS that I had a huge bias until I got to 16 y/o and started driving and riding in my buddy's cars at high school - turns out they weren't as bad as I had convinced myself they were.
Difference is, the longer I live, the more I appreciate the different makes and models for their uniqueness, and the less I "hate" any of them. As long as they are US-born and bred, I say - Bring It On!

Nah, he's a big boy, he can do whatever he wants.
Just offering some tips and info from "the other side".

You have to be "inside" Ford's operating system to know about District Sales Offices (DSO's), but once you do, you have mucho power over the common dealer. Sick one on a dealer, and the dealer will remember you!
The 1-800 line will get you a chick in India that fills out a form and then loses it or emails it to Siberia or something, but the DSO is held accountable by Ford for satisfaction ratings and sales and they have to report everything - and Ford can pull resources (or reorganize them) from areas that are not performing well. Typically, a dealer pretty much must do what his DSO manager says do or bad things befall the dealer in short order.

As for DSO codes, I have most of them memorized in my head, along with most of the other Mustang data. I can darn-near decode a Mustang on the spot without a reference manual or cheat-sheet.
I know I know... I need a life!

I love how anyone who doesnt like the Mustang is bashed.

I dont understand how giving Ford money is going to help GM....I dont see this connection.
Id rather see people buy GM, therefor keep GM in there minds. Anyone looking for a new car or truck can buy or lease one now, and trade it in for a Camaro in 4 years. Id rather see the money go into GM for further R&D on all there cars. I dont see why this is funny? I dont think that the small amount of people buying Impalas, Malibus and Cobalts will destroy any chance of the Camaro returning.
That idea of buying GM will hurt the Camaro sounds about as convoluted as buying a Mustang will make GM make a Camaro. But do what you want.

.

I don't understand how you don't see a connection.

As you know, business is about money. Boatloads of money going to Ford because people can't get enough of Mustang, weakens the anti-Camaro mafia's arguments within GM, which, if left unchecked, will jeopardize our car. It strengthens the pro-Camaro heroes' hands...who are fighting to give us a proper Camaro...called Camaro. A weak Mustang creates a poor environment for a strong Camaro within GM.

HELLO! Don't you get it!

I think that if the Mustang sells well, that will just show GM that there is a market for an affordable coupe. I dont understand how that will equate to it being called "Camaro". Only way it will most deffinatly be called Camaro is if we all send in stuff to Mr.Planet as well as keep bugging the crap out of GM. Yes, the Camaro and Mustang go hand in hand...but I dont think that a succesful Mustang will mean 100% that there will be a Chevy coupe named Camaro. I think your wishing a bit too much.
GM knows that the Mustang will sell like hot cakes. I doubt there is a soul inside GM that thinks otherwise.
Liek I said...I dont think GM is waiting for it to sell like hot cakes...they are counting on it.
If the Mustang fails flat on its face...to which if it does, I will explode due to conflicting emotions...then there is no need for Chevy to bring out the Camaro/Chevy Coupe only to take it away from us later on down the road when they can come up with another reason to get rid of it....again.

Again, I dont see how spending money on a Ford will make someone at GM go "THATS IT! WE NEED TO CALL IT CAMARO!!"

Re: If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!

The connection he's making is that by us buying the Mustang and thus inflating the market for affordable, RWD, V8 sports cars GM will be further pressed to get the 'Chevy Sports Coupe' or 'next Camaro' out as fast as they can. Allthough it does sound like that's the case already. Then I guess what he's hoping is GM will ramrod it through to launch ahead of schedule?

Now, remember, lease your new 'Stang so you can quickly and easily dump that ancient looking pile of whatever for your new Camaro.

I however am still not buying one...even if I still had a job...it's still ugly to me.

Re: If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!

This thread is HILARIOUS!!!!!!!

First off, Mustang will have ZERO problems selling. Ford will meet their sales goal regardless of any underground cult trying to brainwash people into buying Mustangs. GM should see and has been seeing this for quite awhile. Hell just the fact that Chrysler is rumored to be prepping a pony car should be more than enough for GM to see the need for the Camaro. So if you buy a Mustang or encourage others to buy a Mustang for the SOLE purpose of helping the Camaro return, you should be kicked dead square in the forehead IMO!

I'm not biased at all towards good sports cars. If its a good performance buy then I'm all for it, whether it wears a GM, Ford, Chrysler, or import badge. But people should buy a car because they LIKE it not because it helps another one return or whatnot. As much as we want to believe it, I'm sure GM is NOT blind. They see the Mustang has been a roaring sales success. They see the waters stirring at DC trying to beat their pony car to the punchline. Bottom line GM KNOWS THERE IS A MARKET!!!!! The whole "sport coupe market has died" message was smoke in front of the eyes of the naive. A sport coupe will return and its up to GM's lawyers on what its gonna be called, whether Ford sells 200k or 500k Mustangs. And hopefully that coupe will wear the Camaro badge!!!!

As much as I hate to say it, I fear the naming game is out of the common mans' hands now. Its now up to the lawmakers and corporate money-crunchers. Lets hope there are some car guys and Camaro nuts among them.
