So according to this rhetoric, that a car can "spark something" in somebody is "passe" or "BS"?!?! And tell me again what YOU want in a Camaro other than o-60 in 4 sec and an 11-sec 1/4 mile?

Again buddy, when a car is selling 150-200k units a year, has a return buyer rating of nearly 50%, and maintains popularity that is almost cult-like for decades... it just CAN'T be that bad of a car.

Whatever comes from the "Chevy Coupe" or next Camaro, I HOPE it has the pull to my heartstrings that the original Camaro did. IMO, Camaro is now a fixed recipe consisting of performance, style, and economics that should NOT be changed unless the name changes too. If it don't scream "Camaro" to me from across a parking lot - GM has failed.

As much as I love Camaros, the new Mustang is a fabulous looking car and I would strongly consider it if it were not for the fact that I cannot stand my local Ford dealer. It's not the sales guys or front office I have a problem with. It's the guys running the service end of the dealership. (My local Chevy/Cadillac dealer is actually owned by the same dealership group and I absolutely love their service department.) Because they jerked me around on 3 out of 4 visits with my kid's 96 Mustang GT, I will not even consider the 2005 Mustang.

It isn't so much that I'm brand loyal... which I am... its the fact that I don't appreciate a service department that doesn't appreciate their customers.

Can't argue that point in any way.

First, have you contacted anybody at the DSO office and complained? That usually gets feathers ruffle REAL FAST at a dealership... it's like going to the president to complain about dirty bathrooms. Dealers despise a call from the DSO with a report of non-satisfaction.

Secondly, what about a different dealer? There are at least a dozen dealers within 20 miles of you - many are SVT dealers, and they are KNOWN to have excellent service, whether you own an SVT product and get the SVT treatment or not.
Walnut Creek Ford
Broadway Ford
Albany Ford
Melrose Ford
Michael Stead Ford
The Ford Store
There's 6 within 10 miles of central Lafayette! One is full-blown SVT dealer.

Cripes dude, you have no less than 18 Ford dealerships within 25 miles of Lafayette!!! You are in a Ford hot-bed!

I'd think the pressure to have good service would be huge there...

At any rate, if nothing more than to cause a roucus, I'd shoot a note to the DSO, and forward a copy to Ford's Complaint Center in Dearborn. You WILL get a response. Maybe no money back or anything like that since it's been a while, but you WILL get a response!

It's a shame too - for ALL carmakers - that chitty sales reps and service personnel can inadvertantly run-off prospective future sales and business like they do. All carmakers have bad dealerships somewhere, it's not just a Ford or GM thing. I know guionM has commented about the deal his sister got at a Ford dealer, and now you state almost the same thing. Hopefully under Bill Ford for the last year or two, things are starting to change out in Cally's Ford dealerships... they actually do make a pretty decent car but it doesn't matter if nobody wants to take a bunch of sh1+ to drive it or service it.

Your DSO code is 72 for San Jose. That should be the closest office. (You can look at the door sticker on your kid's GT and see if it was originally ordered/delivered as a local car this way... you should have a 72 under the DSO section of the sticker if it is a local car. If there are 4 additional digits behind the 72 (like 72-5432) then it was a special order from the 72 district, and the last 4 digits of the order form are 5432 - cool eh? You can likely get a copy of the order if you want it. Also, most cop-cars have this extended DSO with the troop number or order number shown there.)
Anyways, DSO code 71 is for L.A. which is to your south a good bit I think.
If you like, I can get you the contact info.

If you really do think the Mustang is a decent car and you have a place/use for it in your life, I 'spect you could find someplace better to buy one than your crappy local dealer... if you wanted to!

I refuse to buy what I consider an ugly car no matter how much it might/will help the home team.

As far as I can tell, the most powerful and direct action necessary to convince some of these slow thinkers at GM...that A) a Camaro is needed, B) a Camaro is needed which is in fact a Camaro, C) a Camaro is needed which is called Camaro...is a slam dunk sales success for Mustang. A success so undeniable and powerful, that it shakes the very foundation of those who argue against our Camaro.

So over the next 24 months....talk up the Mustang. Recommend that people go and check it out and urge them to buy one. Heck, go buy one yourself...maybe two if you can afford it.

That's what i said.

Bottom line is, no one will buy a car to prove a point, they will only buy it if they really want it. The Mustang has nothing to offer for me in a vehicle, therefore I will not buy one and that is the reason I didn't buy one in the first place. I agree that buying a Mustang would likely send the message that Chevy should build a Mustang-like Camaro and if that is the case, Chevy can keep it because I sure as hell don't want that vehicle.

You know, at this point I am so worried about what the Camaro will be like that I have almost completely written it off in favor of a Corvette. That's kinda sad.

I'm talking about Walnut Creek Ford (which is owned by Stead Motors). Melrose is another option, the only problem is when I tried them, they had no idea on how to work on it because it has a supercharger. I talked to other "Ford" people and they all had similar horror stories about Walnut Creek Ford.

A friend of a friend hooked me up with a high performance shop in Concord called Stock to Performance and I've been taking it there ever since. (The clincher was when I showed up at the shop and there was even a supercharged RV in the driveway. Plus the owner races a Pro Modified T-bird. ) Needless to say, I've found a mechanic who I'm happy with and is American performance car minded. (He's also doing the work on our 67 Camaro project.)

My problem is buying a new car and getting it serviced under the factory warranty. (Yeah, I actually worry about those things. )

I'll tell you this much... my kid's 96 GT is a kick in the pants to drive.

However, its also a money pit. I've probably put as much $ in repairs than I did in the original purchase price... AND I've only owned it for abput 18 months!

That's not to say Fords are not dependable. I have friends and family that have owned Fords for years and love them. However... they weren't hot rods! Start modifying them and you're bound to have problems.

However, as much fun as my kid's GT is, I'd never trade my 4th gen Camaro for one!

I agree...and I own a Mustang and a Camaro and you know if D/C and ford have a pony car no problem in going in that direction. Basically if GM has nothing to offer then why not..and I hope that anyone that buys a mustang sends a letter to GM about it and state that if there was a CAMARO and nothing but the name CAMARO then I would wait but now the Mustang is sitting in my driveway...

LOL. You need to go look up usernames that begin with "Big" - especially the one where "Big" is followed by "Al". You'll fit right on.

Buying a car to make a point is indeed rather silly. However, I think the original poster's premise is valid. I very much hope that GM pulls an awesome Camaro out of its hat in 2007. Competition improves the breed.

FYI...not being attached to the name, it doesn't matter to me what they call it. It matters much more what it looks, feels, and drives like.

Then again, one shouldn't be forced into the top of the line model of every car to get decent customer service.

OMG....I think that you are actually serious!!!!

Yeah, that contract should also restrict GM dealers from taking any non-GM trade-ins and selling GM cars to Ford owners too.
