They CAN change the name, and they CAN still KILL the whole project. You don't HAVE to buy a Mustang, but you can encourage your friends to buy it.

Wana spend your money for good? Buy a Cobalt SS. Show GM that you want to buy GM and that you want a sporty coupe. Buying a Mustang is NOT the way to go.
You should be tried for treason.
I got a Malibu Maxx for 2 reasons: #1- Cause I wanted a sporty hatch back and #2- I made sure that my lease is up in 4 yrs so I can walk in to pick up my Z28.
Wana show GM you are serious? Buy GM.
You are starting to grow on me Dude!

I am now seeing the humor in what you post. You are a FUNNY guy!!!

I think you got a Malibu Maxx for 3 reasons though...
#1- Cause I wanted a sporty hatch back
#2- I made sure that my lease is up in 4 yrs so I can walk in to pick up my Z28 (is this a reason? Couldn't you do that with ANY vehicle?)
#3 - Working with what GM gave me. (at least according to your own sig anyways.)

Which is where I have the problem. Whether GM-biased or not, you have to admit that the mighty big ship called GM is notorious for steaming headstrong into whatever direction they FEEL LIKE STEAMING (typically "big profit sectors"), regardless of what consumers ask for or may want. Don't get me wrong, they often produce great quality vehicles, and they are capable of some great styling too. Sometimes, they luck-up and put both in the same unit like with the 80's IROC-Z, the 80's Monte Carlo SS, the Regal GN, and the 90's Impy SS. But all-in-all, the General is kind of a huge bureaucratic machine thatcranks out what some mathematical equation in an economic software program tells them will sell. Sometimes it's right and they have a smash, but sometimes... well... anybody want to buy a Metro Convertible?

If you love the Camaro then BUY A GTO. It will get the same message across that RWD coupes need to be built and you're still supporting GM and not Ford.

Then trade the GTO for a Camaro in 3 years

Sure, but that would encourage GM to build a new GTO....or perhaps encourage GM to build a Chevy version of GTO.

Mustang is the only car in the universe that can apply pressure to GM so precisely, so directly, so unambiguously....that their only response is to return with a modern day "pony car" from Chevrolet, called Camaro.

From the other standpoint... buying a Mustang could tell GM that you want a retro-styled car, more upright car.

Also, many of us don't want a "Chevrolet Mustang", yourself included, I believe... and I don't know that GTO strays any further from Camaro than loaded Mustang does to be honest...

How do you know that the '05 Mustang isn't far more "Camaro-like"...than what might be planned for Camaro (if it's even called Camaro).

And please stop worrying about retro....ain't gonna happen.

That's exactly what I'm saying... I do NOT want a "Mustang-like" Camaro. I want a Camaro-like Camaro.

And, again, I don't think that the GTO and a loaded 2005 Mustang are all that far apart as far as the actual car goes, except the GTO is not retro styled and the Mustang is.... and the GTO has more power and IRS.... things I'd like to see in a new Camaro.

As for retro, I have to worry about it... because no matter who says what about the car not being retro... every picture we have seen that anyone says is remotely like what the Camaro will look like looks like an updated first gen to me.... and a lot of others.

Re: If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!

Actualy, that line in my sig would be talking about the 305 I have in my Z28.
Im "working with what GM gave me" was in there LONG before I got the Maxx, but good look trying.

I think that if anyone here goes along with this, they should sign a contract that under no circumstance may they be allowed to trade there Mustang in for a Chevy Coupe/Camaro.
You want to buy a car just to make a point for something that is gunna come anyway? Pretty worthless. We all know that everyone will buy a Mustang cause it sparks something or whatever bs they want to come up with, and then whent he Camaro comes out with more power, better handling, and modern looking and priced about the same...people will look at there Mustang and ask "why am I driving this"...well, everyone but you Mustang/Ford loyals.
Again...I dont think GM is waiting for the Mustang to sell big...I think they are counting on it.

Re: If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!

The Mustang is going to sell well enough on its own. There's no need to panic buy a car you're not remotely interested in, just to force GM to bring back the Camaro.

On the otherhand, the logic of if you love Camaro go buy a (fill in the blank: GTO, SSR, Cobalt SS, Malibu SS, other GM performance car, etc.) is fatally flawed. If GM can sell these cars as Camaro-replacements why on earth would they ever bring the car back?

If you're going to buy a Mustang, buy one because you want it. If you'd rather wait for a new Camaro, then wait. If you can't wait, buy a used Camaro.

Sorry Al but this reasoning will keep the Camaro in the grave.

If every Camaro owner went out and bought GM for all their future cars GM would lose 0 sales. This is why killing the Camaro didn't hurt GM very much. Many of the owners were very brand loyal and they went out and bought Monte Carlos, Grand Prixs, Silverados, etc. GM cut their costs and kept their customers. Brand loyality made killing the Camaro a win-win deal.

Why should GM make a new car if all it's sales are going to come by canabalizing the sales of it's other cars. They are not going to build a car just because they like you, they will only build it if it increases sales.

Hello!

jg95z28 - I also agree 100% with you about buying it because you want it. It's foolhardy to buy something that expensive if you don't have the need or desire for it.

My assumption there was that Z284ever's comment was implicating that someone was definitely in the market for a pony car in the near future (like 1 year window). If they KNOW they want a pony car, 2 drs, 4 seats, V8, RWD, Manual, and LOW COST - then they should have an obvious decision in front of them... a decision that will bolster the odds of Camaro coming back in competitive form provided GM gets the message that "another one crossed the street".
