If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!
Re: If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!
Just thinking about this again.................how will the Mustang help out the decision for the Camaro in any way? At this point, along with the styling, this is a done deal, right? By the time sales numbers for the 05' come out, things at Chevy will have progressed to a point where it doesn't even matter if the market for the car is gone, it will be too late to turn back.I still don't buy the Mustang-Camaro inter-dependancy. One is not dependant upon the other.
When talking about just the name "Camaro" I still don't think it has much to do with the Mustang. I think that the GTO has/had more impact on what it will be called(however small it may be) good or bad.

Re: If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!
Ford can have their share of the "pony-car" market for another ~3 years with their "new" Mustang, as they did from mid '64 through '67, but then the Camaro will arrive and put a frown on all the faces of Mustang drivers when, as it did in '67, the Camaro kicks the Mustang's a$$ all over the streets and at the track!!
Sorry I'm not going to hop on the "buy a Mustang" train..........I'd rather ride the bus (or a train for that matter!
) than drive a Mustang, and will continue to enjoy my '02 (and '73
) until GM offers a new breed of muscle/pony-car that will set the new benchmark of (somewhat) affordable performance
.
Until then, I'll be here, patiently holding my breath!

But I agree with the others. The new Mustang is gonna be a crazy success and Ford should keep it rolling with its special models coming out over the years. I doubt this sales machine will need any help from the GM camp. Fact of the matter is, shortly GM will be seeing these things everywhere, and hopefully that is enough to convince them that name Camaro (the natural competitor to THE MUSTANG) belongs on their new pony car.

Are you on drugs? I dont care what kind of logic you have, I will NOT spend my hard earned money on a car I hate with such a passion.
Wana spend your money for good? Buy a Cobalt SS. Show GM that you want to buy GM and that you want a sporty coupe. Buying a Mustang is NOT the way to go.
You should be tried for treason.
I got a Malibu Maxx for 2 reasons: #1- Cause I wanted a sporty hatch back and #2- I made sure that my lease is up in 4 yrs so I can walk in to pick up my Z28.
Wana show GM you are serious? Buy GM.

Re: If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!
I would not recommend the strategy suggested in this thread. I tried it when GM was discontinuing the Camaro. I bought a Mustang and gosh darn it, I really started to like the thing.
Re: If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!
Wouldnt Mustang sales for the past couple years since the Camaro/firebird was discontinued be enuff convincing . Its not like they actually dropped off . Hell , look at the 1/2 year 04 alone . We make a couple parts for the prior SN95 stangs and the 05 . 04 projections were off and up substantially , and they have already up our orders/per week 3 times on the 05 stang switch assembly we make .
Nobody has to do nething really , the mustang is going to sell reguardless in high volume .

But to come up with this crazy talk about getting a Mustang? Time for you to stop sniffing markers.
If the "Luminux LS" is a FWD 6cyl car, then Ill just go right next store to Pontiac and pick up a Grand Prix/G8 or GTO.
Either way, my next car will be V8 powerd, RWD, and not from Ford or DCX....well, maybe DCX.
This is almost as crazy as that pushrod V8 in a supra idea in the other thread.
And if all else fails....I'll just move to Oz. At least they know how to build a good car.
Re: If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!
bottom line is Mustang has no competition if its names someting other than Camaro....look at it this way...Camaro is the best shot at getting near the sales volume it needs to compete..no other name but Camaro will get people to buy it..
Re: If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!
Facts are facts: GM Will not build the Camaro to make some people that have one from years ago Happy just to see a name plate return. They will build the car if, and only if they think they can pull a profit.
There is a market for all cars, but is there enough of one that a manufacturer can jump in and make some money...
GM didn't kill the Camaro, people that buy cars did buy voting with their wallets.

Z284ever is EXACTLY right - be it unethical, immoral, or whatever you want to call it. If I could guarantee GM that they could sell 100k units/year of a coupe called "Camaro" that was platform-based and parts-sourced from product that GM ALREADY has developed, they would break new records getting it to market I feel sure. They are in it for THE MONEY!
IMO, GM's loyalty to the historical Camaro owner is there, it's just not driving the show. They sponsor some club shows and events. They acknowledge the history of the car. Granted. But they also see the nameplate as an opportunity to make money - it's called "name-pimping" where I hang out, and its a popular thing these days...
"That thing got a Hemi?" Well, NO it doesn't, because the original semi-hemisherical combustion chamber heads that earned the engine it's name 30 years ago are now more like any other conventional ovaloid chamber.
Other good name-pimp jobs here lately include the GTO, Malibu, FiveHundred, Magnum, Marauder, and anything with "SS" and a V6.
They ALL do it.
So beware GM fanatics...
GM is just as likely to put the Camaro name on a 4-seat "sporty" econobox as they are a 4-seat "corvette". They will put it where they think it will get sales... period.
Note to Z284ever...
Dude, you got a set swingin' bigger and louder than church bells to post a line like that on a GM-based site. Only you could pull that one off man!
In theory, I agree with what you say, but in practicality I don't think many who post here would take you up on it or see the logic behind it. The missing link would be for the one's that actually buy or lease a new Mustang to let GM know that they lost a sale to that particular car because there was no Camaro - specifically - for them to buy from a GM division.
I know Ford gives questionaires to buyers to find out what they came from (car-wise) and what they wanted. They also query as to what other vehicles you cross-shopped before purchasing the one you got (for market competition and pricing strategy is my guess). Does GM do this when you guys get a new vehicle? Would be nice to see some of those demigraphics, but I guess you'd need NASA or 007 - level clearance to put eyes on that kind of paperwork.
I just can't help but think that GM has SOME kind of market feedback on the sport coupe market showing there is room for competition to the Mustang.

Must suck to hate an inanimate object. Still, glad I got the chance to save this quote.

Re: If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!
At some point, you have to draw the line.
Assuming one does not care for the new Mustang, isn't it incredibly ridiculous for someone to invest $25,000, and drive a car they don't like just with the slim hope that it might help bring a nameplate back?
I'm all for the Camaro returning, but there is a point where you need to grasp reality.
Now, if said person DOES like the Mustang, I see nothign wrong with it...
