If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!

Yeah, you heard right.

There are still some nimrods within GM that still "don't get" Camaro. What it is. Why it is. Why it needs to be called Camaro. I am assured that the CAW/Camaro name thing is FAR from over also.

As far as I can tell, the most powerful and direct action necessary to convince some of these slow thinkers at GM...that A) a Camaro is needed, B) a Camaro is needed which is in fact a Camaro, C) a Camaro is needed which is called Camaro...is a slam dunk sales success for Mustang. A success so undeniable and powerful, that it shakes the very foundation of those who argue against our Camaro.

So over the next 24 months....talk up the Mustang. Recommend that people go and check it out and urge them to buy one. Heck, go buy one yourself...maybe two if you can afford it.

Big Als Z.....that means you too!

Over here, the GT's are down to around 16K at Malouf Ford. I kid you not. That's 2004 Ford Mustang GT, Fully loaded.

Maybe Big Al can confirm for me, he lives about 30 miles away.

I mean the NEW Mustang! What happens with the '05 and '06 Mustang's sales will, IMO shape what happens with OUR Camaro.

Ahh, of course

Yeah those sales will definitely have an impact on GM's decision making. I like the '05 in black. I can't spring for the GT for another year or so. But hopefully by then we'll have an idea on what's coming out of GM exactly?

Oh come on. I think the next Mustang will sell just fine without a die-hard (i.e. me) Camaro guy buying them up just to "prove a point." I've got better things to do with $25,000 than to spend it on a car I don't care for.

The overwhelming success of the retro Mustang and it being an influence on Camaro is part of what scares me too. Do the Camaro right, mimic Mustang in approach, lineup tiering, that's fine. Just give me a modern-looking vehicle. Please.

Re: If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!

The problem with buying a Mustang to show GM that a Camaro is needed is fine and all but the problem is, you are still left with owning a Mustang, so no thank you. I can find plenty of better ways to spend my money than to buy a Mustang.

Another problem that was touched upon is the fact that this might send the message to GM that in order to have a slaes success, they have to make a retro car and that would just be horrible. Now in this case, the design of the next Camaro is probably pretty much set, so the sales won't have an impact. I just hope the earlier buzz about the Mustang didn't set the path for the Camaro down Retro Road.

How rediculus would it be to have 2 closely competing cars like the Camaro and Mustang be retro and look like they did, 30+ years ago?

LOL. Interesting thought. Even more interesting rebuttals. I just bought an 04 Cobra, so I'm certainly out of the market for a while.

Whatever influence the Mustang has on Camaro.....there is ZERO chance of a retro Camaro.

Far from merely stomping your feet to "make a point"... I'm talking about influencing an outcome.

What happens with Mustang is being closely watched by GM. Camaro is GM's true competitor to Mustang. Always has been. Camaro competes with Mustang toe to toe. Not Chevelle, not Cobalt, not GTO, not a GTO based coupe from Chevy, which is NOT called Camaro. Camaro is the only mark than can stem the barbarian hordes from taking over the city.

Like I said...some people at GM just don't get it yet. But if Mustang "buzz" and Mustang sales start to suck the oxygen out of the room...even they will get it.

They need to see the hordes at the gates, before they'll allow the Camaro crusaders do what needs to get done.

PS
I will personally guarantee no retro Camaro in any outcome.

Well that is certainly good to hear. Last I heard, the design of the Camaro was said to be modern but when the people who were in "the know" compared what they had seen to some of the drawings or concepts done by others, it still seemed as though the design might have strong 1st gen cues which would suggest a retro design.

Re: If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!

I don't buy new. Maybe after they've hit the used car market. By then, i'm sure i'll probably want the bigger and better Cobra (or settle for an 03/04).

Like wilson said, the stang will sell like hotcakes on its own. Outside of the diehard GM loyalists, a lot of those who would have normally bought/looked-into a new firebird/camaro will most likely look/buy into the stang due to the lack of GM competition in the pony car market. Just look at 03 and 04 mustang sales....up and up. The 05 should even post higher sales #'s.

Re: If you love Camaro...go buy a Mustang!

I have been considering the purchase of an 05 Mustang, even though I'm a fairly die-hard chevy guy. The main reason for my consideration is not to prove a point, but because I think the 05 Mustang is a very worthwhile car. Plus, I love how it looks. Yes, you heard right, I like the retro-styling.
