or maybe i don't know enough about turbos, so somebody can clue me in.
Turbos are cheap to get power out of. Many see a 20hp gain just from a $40 boost controller which I guess is the turbo equivilent to putting on a bigger pulley. My G/F's GTI saw a 45hp gain from a $300 chip. My car saw a 50+ whp gain from a chip and a catback. A set of cams are worth 25-40hp depending on how aggressive you go. A down pipe would be worth another 10hp on either car.

The big potential comes from the fact that your car comes from the factory already set up for a turbo aplication with the oil squirters, stronger internals, lower compression, ect. An aftermarket turbo kit will cost $2500- $3500 and will let you run 350- 450 hp on stock internals. Beef those up and you can run 5-600hp.

Two big benifits of turbo over supercharging.
1. Free power
2. Full boost from spool up untill redline.

Technically speaking, turbo's don't produce "free hp" since they create additional backpressure. While the loss isn't as big as a belt driven S/c'er, it is there.

Though I'm a devout fan of supercharging, I gotta say a Turbo Solstice is intriguing.

What GM brand already has, or has shown in a concept, a turbo ecotech? Also, was there ever rumors of this same brand getting a kappa vehicle?

Things that make you go hmmm....

Nomad had a 250HP Turbo VVT 2.2L Ecotec

Curve has a 230HP S/C VVT 2.2L Ecotec

I hope the GXP Solstice gets the Turbo VVT 2.2L

Yah, there's lots of ways to increase HP for cheap on a turbo. You can buy a manual boost controller for 10 bucks to up the boost, same effect as swapping a pulley (without the danger of over-spinning the SC at redline. I don't think the Ecotec has a high enough redline for that to be an issue though.). Also, on a turbo exhaust mods add LOTS of power, moreso than on an NA car or a SC'd car usually. The more airflow out the back, the quicker the turbo can spool and the more boost it can make.

They're the closest thing to free power you'll see...and the power is theoretically infinite, if the engine holds together...where as a SC is driven off of the crank or rpm driven, the boost will eventially die off as rpm's do, the turbo driven by gases can keep going..and the higher the turbo spins(excess of 120K-rpms)the less of a restriction it becomes..
Smaller Modern turbo's have very little lag, so that argument won't hold water anymore...
I have an S/C car, and have owned 2 turbo cars, the 2 turbo 4cyl's would run with my current S/C 6cyl with little modding, I garantee..
For street manners, the SC wins, for performance the turbo wins..
