Impala doesn't fare that well anyways:
Impala Sedan
180-hp 3400 V6 engine
200-hp 3800 V6 engine
3465lb curb weight
you could spend $30k and opt for the 240hp supercharged model though,![lol](https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/images/smilies/lol.gif)

2 tons? You're about 720 pounds shy of 2 tons there, chum.
Let's compare
Pontiac G6:
3.5L V6 engine with 200 hp
Curb weight, lbs 3,380
Chevy Malibu:
ECOTEC 2.2L I4 144-hp
3500 V6 200-hp
Curb weight, 3174 sedan, 3458 hatchback

Btw: When do will we see the 3.5L duratec? I was thinking sometime 06 in the 07 models.

210 Duratec? I saw 203 advertised hp for the 500, and thats a whopping 3hp north of the same engine in the Taurus.
This year we see the Impala's BASE engine higher then the Duratec from Ford's 500, with the 3.9 and 5.3 making its way.
We also see the 3.9 making its way into the G6, easily outdoing the Fusion till it gets some other Mazda power plant.
So...whats so omfgigottahavearebadgemazda about teh Fusion again?

Because the Ford looks good, comes in any flavor.... AWD, FWD, luxury, sporty, or familly sedan. tons of room, great itnerior, and better materials.

Seems like a Ford attempt at a Jetta (both are even built in Mexico). Credit for a unique frontend aside, I don't know that I'm too impressed (ditto for the Five Hundred). Does everything have to be black and trying to look near-luxury??

Worked for Chrysler just with silver instead of black.
Look at all their cars. They all have "luxury/Euro" styling. Some people like that boring looking and if it doesn't look like that no matter what it is or how quality it is they won't buy it.

And better materials? I assume you have sat and driven in a production ready version? And I also assume you have also sat in a G6, so you could compare both Fusion and G6? You sat in all the seats, judging the room of the two vehicles? You have slalom and skid pad numbers for both Fusion and G6 to judge sportness?

The Fusion has a 210 hp Duratec which is more horsepower the the Malibu. And we all know the 3.0 Duratec is just a stop gap for the 500.

3.0/3.5L Duratec is not a mazda powerplant.
Btw: 2005 Impala's base engine is a 180hp 3.4L with the 200hp 3.8L serving as the mid-engine and the 240hp S/c'd 3.8L serving as the top engine in the SS. You probably had the 2006 model year in mind. In that case, the 210hp 3.5L will be the base engine in the 06 Imp. So for 06, the base Imp engine will be just as powerful as the top 3.0L in the 2006 500 which is why Ford needs to get the 3.5L in them ASAP.

Re: If only GM had something like this... 2006 Ford Fusion
Gold Rush, he quoted '06 Impala engines because the Fusion is an '06 car. It won't be competing with the '05 Impala, other than some normal intro product overlap.

But if you really want to compare HP, I love how Fusion supporters ignore the fact the G6 will have a 240hp version BEFORE 2006, and the GXP will run about 270hp within a year.

GM could do great if it would just focus, but it's such a spread out company you get a bunch of cars that are almost there. The Pontiacs are OK, and a lot better than the Chevy offerings. They just don't excite me at all.
And hey now, no redzed comparisons. At least I back up what I say and don't ignore any response to it.
