Question I wonder......

....if we'll have our current horsepower revival cut short again by the insurance companies??

I recently changed Insurance carriers after 29 years at the same company.......now mind you, I'm a 45+ year old, married father of two, making around $75k - $80k / year incl. wife's income....with two houses, four cars, stable job, etc..... and the new insurance carrier sent me a letter that said something to the effect that they didn't normally cover cars like my (original 275hp rated) 1994 Z28 due to it being listed on their HOT car list and it was a car that had a lot of power for it's light weight (LOL!!)...and they don't even know about the extra 200 hp I've added??!!?? Oh, they covered it, but only due to the other cars / houses I moved too.....

How the heck are people supposed to get insurance coverage on the cars like the new Cobra's, and other planned 400++ hp cars??

We could be headed for the death of performance just like the early '70's all over again.....I sure as hell hope not!

I'd say that car companies will start lieing about there horsepower ratings first. Of course, they already do that to a point. LS1 is a good example. Insurance is a racket, but you have to have it. Sucks really!

There are a lot of Camaros out there (and cars like them)... I would think an insurance companies that refused to insure them would not be around long...

Just my .02.

This'll strike you funny... when I went to find out how much it would be to insure my 16 year old stepson on a 95 Mustang GT... it was $1000 less than the V6 Mustang!!!!

I'm convinced that the people making up the rates for cars must be idiots.

Ever call to get a quote on different years of the same car? The years aren't always in order from most expensive to least. Last time I called a 98 LS1 was more expensive to insure than a 2000 and a 99 was cheaper than the 2000. odd

I sure hope it doesn't go that way.
Seems like it could though.........everything is getting more expensive and I keep making the same amount of money.

Have you checked on a 2001 or 2002 LS1 Camaro, That is what I plan on getting this May. Id take a 2000 but I'd rather have the 2001 since it already has the LS6 intake.

Buy the V8 model that had ****ty HP and double it

Seriously you do bring up a good point. The EPA shouldnt be able to complain as long as the cars are putting out as good of gas miliage as they are, esp where their concerns should lie with SUVs. That leaves the insurance companies to hold back. But then again, that might be a business opportunity for someone who has the ***** to insure low risk drivers with high risk cars.
