I just love 'Cudas.......
I just love 'Cudas.......
That is definately my favorite year of 'Cuda and Challenger, even if they are sorta 1st gen clones. I especially loved Chysler's colors at that time.
HOWEVER, as a new car concept
Been there, done that.

Thats supposed to be a concept for a new cuda? When I first clicked the link, I thought that was just a pic of an old cuda and scrolled down looking for the concept. It looks just like the old one with side exhaust, a fancy hood and a smoothed over front facia. You could take an old car and with a little know how replicate that exact car.
Its nice, but a little too retro, (ie almost identical to the old one) for me.

Sh*t I'd consider one of those in a heartbeat.
I mean we're talking about a car made with modern techniques, materials and assembly quality. So many people see something that is 'retro' and immediately dismiss it.
But if it looks great, who cares whether it's 'retro'.
Take for example a bone stock pristine AAR CUDA or any muscle car as it came from the factory. Look it over and note the (by today's standards) shoddy assembly tolerances, panels gaps, trim that doesn't hold up to todays standards, an interior that looks spartan and cheap-looking, outdated (by today's standards) materials in general.
Then take that car and give it a $50,000 makeover by someone like Troy Trepanier. Eveything cleaned up, smoothed, straightened, panel gaps even and as small as possible, interior all done up with high quality leather and custom fabbed dash, door panels etc.. no expense spared WRT labuor time. Now, note the point of this makeover is not to turn it into a pro-street car with crazy in the weeds stance, but to make it look very clean, shiny, modern and slick appearance whilst still being a daily driver.
This to me gives me a clue of what that car might *look* like if it was built from scratch today with modern techniques, tolerances, materials, technolgy, handling, performance etc. This is what the new Mustang represents. The same could be done with that AAR Cuda.
Sorry to ramble, but I think some of these old muscelcar designs got it right and can be brought into the 21st century as fantastic looking new cars. New mustang is a case in point. That AAR Cuda would be killer given the same treatment.

I've had a thing for '70 'Cudas since I was about nine years old. I used to watch the Mannix TV series just to see him drive his 'Cuda.
On this concept....I'd lose the "boy racer" side pipes and maybe do a front grill/light treatment more like the clean and classic '70 model.

My unlce has a '70 Hemi Orange AAR 4-speed. I probably wouldnt have my car if it wasnt for that cuda. My love for american muscle began as a child in that car. I remember my first ride in it... 4 years old or something. He sidestepped first, and that thing just glued my 50 lb self into the seat. I remember struggling to pull away (I couldnt) when he grabbed second... I launched forward into the back of the front seat, then he completed the shift and I slammed back into the seat again. This fall, I ran him with my car, and even with the weight difference, it pulls away from me
(I have a 4.10 and a catback for mods). The '70 AAR is one of the MOST BADASS looking cars that exist, and if I hit the money out of college, HELL YEAH I'd buy a new one. That is retro at its absolute best! ONLY thing Id change is the headlights.... '70s only had one on each side... (but I could live with that!)

and make the hemi availible in it for crying out loud!

The biggest changes I see are ride height, and a slightly chopped top. Also the fascia of course... and the lack of the AAR badge.

The ones on this concept look cheesy to me.

The more I watched the B-J auction....the more shocked I was. Some of these cars have appreciated 200-300% in the past 3 years. Not good news for the non-millionare enthusiast.
