Many people think that the 2003 Dodge SRT-4 is a new concept over at Mopar, but those people should take a gander at this.
Check this out! http://www.xmission.com/~dempsey/shelby/sheldodc.htm
In 1991-1992, Dodge made the Spirit R/T with a Lotus designed head on top the 2.2 4cyl Mopar motor, teamed up with an intercooled turbo and a 5 speed manual transmission, this motor created a rated 224hp and 217ftlb of torque. This was good enough to blast the little sedan to 60mph in 5.8, and the quarter in 14.5 at 97mph with a top speed of 141mph. Sound familiar?

I remember the Spirit R/T. My mom bought a new 91 Spirit when the 92's were just coming out... I kept trying to persuade her to shoot for the R/T... No luck!

Talk about a 'sleeper' though!

Another one of those forgotten but deadly quick cars.

Sounds like an idea for a thread on the next slow/no news day!

For some reason, all I can hear in my head is Eric Cartman:

"But Maaaaaaaawwwwmmmm."

I'm not saying you're fat Darth...

Actually, this would be 1991 some time... so I was probably 19 years old.

I was a string bean at this point... 6'2" probably 165 soaking wet.

The funny thign is that even though she bought the regular Spirit instead of the R/T, it was like a rocket compared to the 1987 Aries K she had prior!!

A friend bought a '91 Spirit R/T when they first came out. Best it ran was a 15.2. Another friend bought one used a few years later, installed a turbo bleed off kit, and ran a 14.3 on snow tires. The first guy was pi**ed.
The first guy still has his. He's put a bunch of mods on it, but it never seems to run right. He's always got an excuse of why it doesn't run right.

And if you don't want to spring for the 50-100 bucks for an actual "bleed off kit", you can buy the parts at home depot for about $8.

Bleed off valves are typically worth at least a half a second or so on turbo Dodges. It doesn't take much to make 'em go really fast.

Omni GLH (has been mentioned already), GLHS, and Shelby Charger were also two quick turbo dodges. ive ridden in a shelby and that thing was pretty quick, not bad for a car built in 1987!

My bleed valve got stuck close once on my old Turbo 2.5 Sundance. Boy, that was a kick in the pants! It felt almost as strong as my Z28 for a bit. Couldn't hit the gas too hard though, or it would overboost and the computer would shut off the fuel flow.

I think that's what's happening to my buddy's Spirit R/T. He says he has to get a new chip or a whole new 'puter or something like that to fix the problem. But apparently, he hasn't found anybody to do it.
Quite frankly, I don't really pay attention when he's talking about that car because, no matter how fast he makes it, it's still just a 4 door, FWD, 4 banger.
