What I think may end up happening is that there will essentially be two versions of cars: euro and north america (or the rest of the world).

Sort of like NA Honda Accord is different from EU Accord.
Volkswagens are built in Mexico, Accords in Canada, etc...

No.... but the jist of it was that he discussed it with a Cadillac safety engineer that didn't see compliance being a major issue.

Well, we get both of them as well, one Accord the other one called Acura TSX. But I am wondering WHERE the TSX is made - whether somewhere in Europe, or in NA along the present Accord? Plus there are some changes anyway from Euro Accord to our TSX, and to change front fascia / bumpers for North American / Aus acceptance may not be such a big thing.

I'm a little curious about this as well... Is this that big of a problem in Europe that they have to redesign cars??? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it royally sucks to get hit by a car, whether it has these enhnacements or not, but is it of such epidemic proportions that something like this is called for?

I'm just curious as to what the motivation for these changes were. If it's just some liberal jerk who's pushing their own adjenda? Then what's next, having a nice comfy mattress and pillow on the hood of every car so that when you do strike a pedestrian they just land and take a nap?

Why stop there: I think every car should have a stretcher and it's own EMT team on board ready to take even the most insignificant mammal to the nearest hospital or (in the case of roadkill) to the vet.

Next we'll have mosquito catchers in front and a mechanism that releases them in the rear so that no bugs get squashed.

Ok, so I laid the sarcasm on pretty thick, but this just smacks of the same crap that is currently plaguing the US right now. No one is responsible for their own actions: if I'm fat, then it's McD's fault, if I smoke my way to lung cancer, blame the tobacco companies. Now, if I get hit by a car and it causes permanent knee damage, it's because they're not soft enough???

Again, I don't know what the motivation behind this is, and maybe it's all done by good intentions. I just see it leading to the things that we have going on here in the US. Not good.
