There is a HUGE disconnect right there. When I see J-Lo (and I wish I couldn't), I don't think "Bet she drives a Fiat.". And the commercials are pretentious and nearly laughable. I feel they are condescend me into thinking that she drives anything that costs less than $100K
But I do agree with you. I thought the same thing.

Cruze Eco 28/42
Cruze LTZ 26/38
The Chevy Cruze offers similar fuel economy but has a lot more space. Lets face it, most people buy small cars to save money, yet they still want to get the most bang for their buck. They want as much interior/cargo space as they can get while still being affordable and good on gas. It is no wonder the Cruze is a hit world wide.

Soooo tempting to go political here. But I'll refrain, except to say that yes, that is the right call.

Mercedes, BMW, and Audi seem to be doing ok in the USA.

Sales?
They are OK. Keep in mind that in the early months, Fiat sold only 5-800 of them monthly. Now it;s something like about 1500. Also, Fiat never planned to sell boatloads of them.
I really like the interiors of the Fiat 500. It's stylish, everything is in easy reach (and not just becaiuse it's tiny). But because of the exterior, I wouldn't be caught dead in one.
The other shortcomings (less than spectacular fuel economy for the size, less than spectaular storage space, less than spectacular quality) is pretty much what chilled Smart sales after everyone realized there are better cars with more space that get getter fuel economy.
