How about a $55K C6 Coupe?

It turns out the first C6 Corvette I saw on a dealer's lot was a $54,565 MSRP example. No, I didn't drive it. For that matter, I didn't even enquire to see if they were willing to deal below sticker. Still, Chevrolet really overproduced the C5 and plenty of 2004s are lingering unsold despite discounting. With a loaded C6 Coupe running $55K, I can only assume that a convertible is going to run well over $62k when fully optioned.

Right now, a SLK55 AMG is on the way, a 911-powered Porsche Boxster is a near certainty and a V8-powered BMW Z4 is rumored. It looks as if the Corvette convertible will going up against the improved German roadsters without much of a price advantage.

I thought the c6's MSRP was UNDER the c5's current msrp?

edit: if you go to chevrolet.com the c6 starts at $44,245

If you think that $10K in options is impossible for a C6, consider that a Cadillac STS V8 starts at less than $48K and tops out at over $63-64K.

Options can boost it pretty high, however watch out, the dealers are marking them up $5-10K here.

The C6 however does start for less than the C5

I didn't say it was impossible with the z51 package/markups/sat-nav etc... I just think it's a great price for what you get. I doubt gm is quaking in their boots because of some overpriced (but well engineered/built) competition. Plus the fact you get a lot more for your money than with the C5 I just don't think it's outrageous.

The closest chevy dealer has a silver C6 Coupe optioned to 52,7XX more or less, and has a 5k mark up to make it 57,7XX. They also have two "brand new" 2002 Z28 verts for 32k and 33k. Really, at that price it doesnt surprise me they havent sold them. Who knows maybe they dont want to sell them

The new SLK 350 starts at 46220. I would doubt you could get an SLK 55 for less than 60000 and even that "low" price would surprise me.

The next boxter has a 2.7 L engine standard with 240 hp and 199 ftlbs, the S is 280 hp and their site doesnt say torque for the S. but the S gotes 0-60 in 5.2. The current base model starts at 42,600 and the S 51,600. both being base prices.

If the Z4 does get a V8, that would probably be the only one corvette would have to worry about for bang to buck value. But it might not have to worry too much as the Z4 would be the oldest car of the bunch.

Performance the corvette will kill the next boxter S, for about $600 more. It will probably beat the SLK55, but it would be a closer race, and i have no idea about the V8 Z4. If people really want bang for their buck they will definately go Vette. enthusiasts will stick to their cars, and others will probably go for the better looking or better driving one to them. IMO at least

You are comparing a top of the line+mark up C6 to cars that arent out yet.
Im sure the C6 will have fun playing with the new kids on the block.

Exact same thing here . I looked at a Silver auto C6 at a local chevy dealer Saturday . 52,xxx with a $5000 "regional" mark-up second sticker . This car looks absolutely sex in person , pics do not do it justice AT ALL . I see LOTS of corvette past and dont get the viper comparison .

Re: How about a $55K C6 Coupe?

Next time I' shopping for a new car, I'm going to use this line my friend used about "regional" mark-up..

"For $5000, I can take a first class round trip plane ticket, get a town car to pick me and the car salesperson out that won't charge me a regional markup, bring him out to a nice resturant for dinner and to sign the papers, arrange a closed carrier car transport, hang out in the city for night, crash at a nice hotel room for the night, and fly back the next day"

Re: How about a $55K C6 Coupe?

If you order a C6 without the optional equipment not available on the C5 (Navigation, Onstar, Heated Seats, etc) the sticker is just about in line with the 2004 C5...

Get more stuff, pay more money....

actually the V6 RWD STS starts at $41K

Base C5 (A4) = $44,635
Base C5 (M6) = $45,550
Base C6 = $44,245
Z51 C6 = $45,740

A C6 with a 6 speed Manual is $1305 cheaper than a C5 6 speed (MSRP of course )
