Hood Scoops! OK, everyone happy now.
Hood Scoops! OK, everyone happy now.

DETROIT -- The 2005 Pontiac GTO will be restyled to include hood scoops, General Motors sources said.
The 2004 model GTO, which does not have hood scoops, has prompted GTO fans to write letters to GM asking the automaker to bring back the scoops that were on the original 1964 GTO. The scoops enhanced the car's performance image.
Hood scoops force air into the engine. It is unclear if the scoops will be functional or decorative.
The new GTO is a rear-wheel-drive high-performance coupe with a 5.7-liter engine derived from the Chevrolet Corvette. Pontiac officials say the car's acceleration, handling and braking will be the best ever in a GTO.

No. Well, somewhat.
They should be on there this year, its gonna be the 1st GTO ever without them. But right now, since hood scoops are confirmed, dual side exhaust is still needed. And maybe some stripes.

Anyone catch this tidbit from Wangers evalutation that they considered using "decals" of hood scoops to appease enthusiasts. I'm glad they didn't go that route!!
Ultimately, the way they explain it in that article, no hood scoops was only way we'd get an '04 model.
From Autoweek
AW: People have criticized this car for its looks. Even after driving, would you say it has questionable styling cues?
Wangers: It isn’t what I call an “Oh my God.” The fact that they don’t have a hood scoop is critical. According to GM, it is very similar to the Grand Prix because of EPA certification requirements and its hope to get the car out as a 2004. If GM had put a hood scoop on it, it would have interrupted the airflow, which would mean certification on its own, which is why they just could not. In fact, somebody said, “We were thinking about putting a decal hood scoop on it,” which would be flat. That would be asking for criticism.

Whoever even suggested that has NO PLACE in the automotive manufacturing industry, let alone be involved with an enthusiast car like GTO.
I don't care who it was... that is just ridiculous.
Yep, if they are not functional, I dont want them either. If Iwas into fake scoops, I'd buy a mustang. I'm happy with the car the way it is, and I ordered one. I bet NONE of these people b!tching about the scoops to GM will ever buy one, no matter what GM does with it. Because, if they were THAT big of a deal, there is a lot of aftermarket out there to get it done
