Holden considering making Monaro (and GTO) in Australia again.
Holden considering making Monaro (and GTO) in Australia again.
Holden's reaction to GM cutting North American Zeta development included a few intresting items (I don't think this has been posted before):

In addition to this story, separately, word comes from about as top of a source as you can get that new Monaro is still a part of Holden's future vehicle lineup.
It also seems Holden isn't wasting time in trying to find a way to get the next Monaro (and GTO) to market if it isn't going to be made here.
“Our position is that this is not the end of the story,” Ms Perry (Holden’s acting national manager – media relations) said. “We are still working through it and it really is too early to make any definitive statements about what the future holds.”
Given GM does not intend to proceed with any North American-based vehicles off the Zeta platform, there are those who see the decision as an opportunity, especially where the Pontiac GTO is concerned.
Under the Zeta plans for North America, Holden was getting the role of engineering the Pontiac GTO. But, unlike the current export arrangement, the GTO was going to be built in North America and not in Australia.
If the US decides it still wants a GTO, the possibility could exist that the Monaro could get another life on the Zeta platform and be exported to the States out of Elizabeth, South Australia, using Australian parts.

Re: Holden considering making Monaro (and GTO) in Australia again.
So, if Zeta is still going to be used to build cars in Australia, what are the odds that the GTO, if it survives, will look like what Motor Trend has reported this month?

If Holden/GM had to decide to either bring over a zeta-based Aussy-made GTO or Camaro I think they would choose to make it a new Camaro along side the next Monaro.
A new Camaro would sell more units then a new GTO if they had to pick only one.
