Heres a Pontiac oriented braintwister...

Pontiac is poised to become a performace-oriented volume brand right? (Sorta like Nissan has become)

Where in the business plan does the Montana minivan fit in? Isnt a Chevy minivan enough?

Now for the discussion. In your own words, justify the Montana SV6.

Wanna know what? I actually used to ponder that myself, and was contemplating posting a question about it. I never understood how Pontiac, the "performance" division of GM, could have a mini van in their lineup. That could be a spot in the lineup for the Firebird, but nope GM and Pontiac have to squander resources on a minivan. So please, back to the topic at hand, if anyone can justify the Montana (SV6) in Pontiac's lineup, I'd like to hear it as well.

Families could use a performance Minivan?

Actually it's funny that you use Nissan as your example. Volume performance, ok I can kind of see that direction for Nissan but remember that they have the Quest, a brand new van, out as well.....

Lol... it will make more sense after BMW comes out with the minivans they have in development.

I would consider Pontiac on par with Nissan for "sportiness" already. As stated, they also have a minivan. BMW is the target anways, not Nissan.

Additional justification? Pontiac is still a mass-appealing brand and the masses also drive minivans. It is too easy for GM to add a new bumper and some zippier handling to another brand's minivan and passify these Pontiac-preferring customers. And why not? Customers don't seem to mind their SUVs in 10 different flavors.

I think the Porsche enthusiast is the one with the legitimate complaint.

If Mazda can talk about a Zoom Zoom Minivan, so can Pontiac. Pontiac also had station wagons.... nothing says speed like station wagon. .
And I think Pontiac should have a higher aim then Nissan. Not BMW, but Acura and Infinity.

I believe SVT is supposed to be doing some sort of SUV in a couple of years or so, granted not a minivan. I have no problem with car companies making a "fast" minivan, but I probably wouldn't buy one.

I don't like minivans, but heck, I'll take a crack at it.

Chevrolet, as GM's value & volume leader, is also GM's "plain jane" vehicle line. Chevrolet if for people looking for a good car without alot of frills. That means Performance cars, family sedans, or even mini vans.

Pontiac, on the other hand, is for people looking for a little more spice in their vehicles. It doesn't automatically mean that everything Pontiac makes is going to be quicker than the one step down Chevrolet division. But it does mean it has to be at least more visually exciting inside & out than the comparative Chevrolet version.

Montana SV6 adds body cladding, a slightly more aggressive front end, and a personality that is more SUV than minivan (at least in the looks department), while Chevrolet's Uplander looks more like a European minivan.

Otherwise, I can't come up with a thing.

Call it a GMC?

Imagine the "Professional Grade" GMC SV6 Denali.

I figgured someone would mention this one... My view is that ya, Nissan has a minivan, but its sure as hell DIFFERENT aint it? Ive been in a Quest, and while it aint my cup of java, its a world apart from other minivans. An aquired taste maybe, but definitly different.

The SV6 has body cladding and a different nose over the Chevy...

True true.

I think if Porsche can get away with making an SUV, I see no problem with Pontiac making a minivan, even if they wanna be seen as the "Performance Division".

Hehehe, that cracks me up. But given the fact that those two (esp Infiniti) are chasing BMW, that should be Pontiacs aim too. Anyway, Gm already has a division that is much better placed than Pontiac for going after Acura and Infiniti. Its name is Oldsmobile. Oh.... wait, they killed that useful brand off and kept the old-fogy-Buick .
