Heh, working at a pontiac dealership has its benefits.

Hey yall, i work at quality pontiac its in michigan. Well im in the detail shop one day, and i hear over the intercom, Tom has just sold the first GTO of the showroom floor yellow w/ a 6 speed. Well they send it back to me in detail to wax and do a full detail on the car. Well the perks of the job is i get to test drive the car before its given to the customer. Let me tell you one thing, this car is great. The interior is kinda cheesy but who gives a .... its a gto. Anyway theres 2 things that are wrong. The interior is cheesy, and this car is in dire need of gears. The motor doesnt feel like it wakes up till about 3500. i guess thats how all ls1's are tho. Anyway if any of you buy the GTO slap a set of 4:10's on it and hang on. I couldnt believe how hard this thing pulled AFTER 3500 rpm. handling was exceptional for how big the car is. And there is plenty of room for 4. Great car for around 32k

Awesome...

The GTO's are geared lower than any stock F-body. So a jump to 4.10's isn't as big as you may think. Also the cam is a little more aggresive and emphasizes off the line torque. So, I'm a little surprised when you say it's lacking. Of course I'm sure you didn't go all out with it...being that it is someone else's new car and all.

I don't necessarily think the LS1's lack low end grunt. Maybe it's the fact that it does gain so much on the top end make it feel that way. It's all relative. I don't have a lot of seat time in one though.

The new GTO's are beginning to grow on me. Some might think the interior is a little overdone, but hey, it truly is unique in today's US market.

I think the GTO interior is great, it is one of the best on the market (for both import and domestic) Most of the press seams to like it too.

I guess Everyone has there own tastes.

Thumbs down

The GTO interior is very good; that seems to be the general consensus. I just hope you weren't beating the crap out of someone's new car. Lot techs/detailers have no business tearing up someone else's car.

I agree, I hope your opinion of the car is based on that you didn't beat it up enough.............that would suck.

What do the GTO's have for stock gearing?

Yeah I have to agree, if this was my brand new GTO I wouldn't be too happy.

Mental note for me:

Don't buy wifey's Solstice from Quality. Go to Randy Hosler.

I had the porter at Lunghamer Chevrolet stall my car three times in the service bay before I made him get out and moved it myself.

I'm sorry, but this is wrong what you did. If I'm not mistaken, practically all GM cars have a 500 mile break in period. You are supposed to drive it such that you don't do any hard acceleration and you don't have the engine running at a constant RPM. I also think you aren't supposed to go above 60. Something about making sure all the valves/seales seal up right or somethign like that. I'd have to check the owners manual of my camaro for the exact details but this is just wrong. You shouldn't have done this.

No, I didnt beat on it and launch it at 4k and whatever. But seriously this car does lack the low end i thought it would have. You have to drive one to really understand it. And you have to sit in the interior to really see why its cheesy. The yellow one wasnt that bad. But the blue one i drove screamed cheesy it was like dont step on my blue suede shoes. Some may like it. But it doesnt feel like its really quality like I was hoping. I think graphite cloth woulda loooked great in the car. But thats my opinion.
