Has anyone out there bought an '06 Impala SS?
Has anyone out there bought an '06 Impala SS?
I'm considering buying one, but like the old saying goes, "Ask the man who drives one". I drove both the SS and the LTZ. The SS is really a handful, with too much power for front wheel drive, . . . . and certainly doesn't handle as well as my '99 Z28, but it is the fastest family cruiser that I've driven. The LTZ was very adequate and would probably suit us just fine, but I still love those SS G-forces!

Drive a Grand Prix GXP. I havent, but I just saw one last week. First thing I noticed was the front tires are bigger than the rears.
P255/45R18 front, P225/50R18, rear.

See sig
White/neutral w/ polished 18's
We thought about another CTS, but the wife is really partial to Chevrolet (it's a dad thing). To be honest, I liked the LTZ, but she said if we got an Impala, it would have the V8.
Ok
Certainly not the most dynamic vehicle in any department, but it's a pleasant package, and we always wanted the old B body Impala that they made here in town 10 years ago, but couldn't afford it at the time. The new style and the V8 got her. She despised the '00-'05 Impala, and mocked it's V6 super sports. But now that it has a "real" engine (her word) she likes it. And it is also one of those GM cars that look better in person than they do in pix. I just wish we could have got it w/out the spoiler.
Will give full road test when we get it

Re: Has anyone out there bought an '06 Impala SS?
Dont forget that there are still some one owner low mile 96 Impalas out there that come up for sale sometimes. Probably not quite as fast as the 06, but the LT1 in the B body really had the torque off the line.
Re: Has anyone out there bought an '06 Impala SS?
Did you consider a new GTO? Probably not the best car if you have to haul around kids though since it is only two doors but it is a blast to drive.
Re: Has anyone out there bought an '06 Impala SS?
I considered a GTO, but they're too impractical. We want a family cruiser that can carry 4 adults with relative comfort. It's too bad that the '06 SS doesn't have RWD, but it seems to fit the bill of family cruiser. With the red tag sales going on now, a nicely equipped SS will cost under 28K. I've got over 3K in GM Mastercard savings, so the bottom line would be around 25K, with the LTZ slightly less. I really wonder if the fuel mileage will be anywhere near the 18-28 figures advertised!

Zjim1, you can only use up to $2000 of GM Card earnings towards the Impala right now, so take that into consideration if it makes a difference.
Re: Has anyone out there bought an '06 Impala SS?
I think the new Impy SS has clawed it's way onto the "possible" chart to replace either my car or my wife's car when the leases come up... I don't know that it is a totally serious contender at this point, simply because I think we are both looking at something AWD/4WD, and possibly trucky/SUVish...
But it has at least reached consideration when beither of us were really considering that segment at this point. That is significant to me.

Re: Has anyone out there bought an '06 Impala SS?
I drove a 2006 Monte Carlo LTZ and loved it. Since I'd rather have 4 doors and a V8 I'd definatly consider the Impala SS. How much are they with the red tag sale $25,XXX???? I also love that the V8 w/ DoD gets the same or better hwy milage than many V6 sedans.
I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but the Impala got a 2nd set of chrome 18"s

LS4 gets BETTER mileage hwy than the LTZ's V6.

Which card do you have? I have the old "blue" card and was just told that I could use my entire $3200. The newer cards have limits based on a particular model.

Re: Has anyone out there bought an '06 Impala SS?
It's not they type of card, it's the redemption allowance allowed. I copied this from the GM card website...
The Redemption Allowance is the maximum amount of GM Card Earnings that can be applied toward the purchase or lease of each vehicle. Redemption Allowances are established for the duration of each vehicle's model year and may increase during promotional periods.
In this case for 2006 Impala, it says the max is $2000. I hope I'm wrong!!

Re: Has anyone out there bought an '06 Impala SS?
Clean,
He's right...he can redeem as much as he wants. The old cards let you...its the newer cards like yours and mine that have the limit
My father has the old card, and redeemed $2,600 on his most recent TB LT, which supposedly had a 2 or $2,500 limit.
However, the old blue cards will only let you earn up to $500 per year...we can earn as much as we want!
