But of course, they were non-commital, and they ended the comparison by saying that it was only a mini-test, and that they would make their final decision after a 'full comparo'. Well, the pressure must have been on, because when they did the 'final' test, the Miata came up aces. Again, what a load of crap.

Point being, it's very underrated. There's a 490lb difference in curb weight, and the hemi makes ~60 more hp, and more torque. I think a 110mph trap speed is easily attainable.

Re: GTO vs Charger SRT-8
Over downunder, edited LS2s only dyno 350rwhp and that's on our DD chassis dynos which are typically 11% conservative compared to US Dynojets. The stock LS2s dyno anywhere between 300-330rwhp (DynoDynamics). Add the 11% difference, and the LS2's output is not far from the 360-370rwhp claimed for the Hemi 6.1L... but the GTO is some 300lb lighter.
I still love the 300C and SRT-8 but the way some of the members over at 300C forums are carrying on is sad. They're either gullible or the Hemi in question is a freak. I'm still inclined to believe the former statement is correct as the 1.8s 60-ft time is possible on semi-slicks, not road tyres. I could be wrong, though.
Anyway, it sounds like the driver is a drag strip demon judging from his garage collection (a 10s-130mph 2004 GTO turbo ) and I'm sure he would know a few tricks to get a stock car boogeying.

Re: GTO vs Charger SRT-8
For the longest time I was very much against the Charger due to its size and wight problems. But last week I finally saw an RT in all black and I have to say, that thing looks menacing in person in all black. I can see now why the magazines have so much stacked towards the "Gotta Have It" factor. Just based on looks alone is enough to pick the Charger over the blandish, 90's looking GTO, even if there is a $6000 premium attached to it.

Look, the SRT was obviously a freak. Even the SRT guys were asking the owner to come down and do a voodoo dance on their cars so it would run the same way.
A 6.0 manual GTO is about a fair fight against the auto SRT.
Personally I'm waiting on the 2 door Charger though.

Yeah, I know, I still think 12.56 is quite a stretch though. Especially with a stock auto. On street tires.
Re: GTO vs Charger SRT-8
I just traded in my CTS-V for a 300 SRT-8 yesterday and all I can say is the car was no freak. In the summer guys were touching the 12's with 2.1 60ft times and this guy was in the 1.8 range..you do the math. The HP is deffinately underrated in the 300.

I can show you many 320rwhp dyno #'s from CTS-V's. You can put a car on any Dyno you want, but a track is the real test. The SRT-8's are putting up the better numbers stock for stock. Even if you put it up against a C6 Vette the SRT-8 is matching their 1/4 times and it is being done by multiple cars.

Re: GTO vs Charger SRT-8
I'm not calling it anything. The argument is against a GTO. I beleive with the right conditions that his car could do that at a Jersey track on a cold day at sea level. Hell, you can go to Cecil county and pick up a tenth or 2 just because the track is slightly down hill. The question is if the SRT-8 is faster than the GTO and the answer is yes. There are too many people running theirs in the 12's, and they are not ringers from magazines. You do the math now.
4400#, 425HP car w/driver running 12's
4000# , 400HP car w/driver running 13's
Using the A4 goat for a more apples to apples comparison and using the general rule of 100#'s ='s 1-10th loss in the 1/4 I would say the SRT-8 is underated, the GTO is overrated, or a little of both.
