I'd like to point out a few things

1. They list a VIN. There is no VIN yet issued, so obviously this is mis-leading.
2. I'm not even sure allocations are going out yet. Not even all the dealerships are getting them in. (or will only get one)
3. Rest assured, ask me 6 months from now, and i'll be able to get you one at sticker or less. Anyone who buys one before they hit the ground is just asking to pay way too much.

Don't be too upset yet. This is just pure american greed that comes with any new auto introduction.

come on enough with the grand prix references.... it should cuase back when the gto was made in yesteryear.. it stemmed from a basic lemans and guess what looked just like a lemans!! with the exception of hood schoops, rims, engine size!!!.. can we get off it already on how it looks like a grand prix.. thats nothing new here!!! compared to how they made them back then!!......thank you

Remember that thread that once surfaced on the board showing a picture of a Evo 7 marked up to like $45 or $55k? Theres a local dealership here selling one for right around $30k.

Its the same thing with that GTO. Only people who are wealthy and really want to be the first one in Ameria would bid on that car. Prices will drop.

I don't think the smart shopper need necessarilly get raped on a GTO. Don't get me wrong.....I believe all 18 thousand will be quickly snapped up....but I think there will be room to deal.

A local Pontiac dealer said that he had 15 pre-orders early this year. 5 of them cancelled after seeing the GTO at the Chicago Auto Show.

I haven't seen a marked up Cobra in awhile. But when they first came out most of the ones I saw had about a $3 grand mark up.

I saw a Mach 1 a couple of weeks ago with a $7,000 dealer mark up!

I have 3 orders in the system, but no allocations and have not been preferenced...I think both those things are WAY off in the future...

The price to be the absolute first on your block to own something like this is almost always very high. I would say that patience is in order, and skipping the first year car will probably be a good idea anyway. I will use the Z06 vette as an example. Everyone who could possibly want at Vette wanted a Z06 in 2001 when the horsepower jumped to 385 and the car got great press everywhere. Many people gave sticker plus thousands more, some $10000 more, to own the car first. Like everyone else, I was impressed with the car compared to our 2000 FRC Vette , but we could not justify the asking prices for the car. Then, blammo, the 2002 car debutes with 405 horsepower, and the 2001 car is obsolete overnight. We purchased a new Electron Blue 2002 Z06 in September of 2001 for $4000 off of sticker here at Ross Downing Chevrolet in Hammond, LA. If you check around, you will find the 2001 Z06's going begging for buyers in the low $30000 range in many cases. GM has already acknowledged that it has changes in mind for the 2005 GTO that will add more personality and performance. By then, many potential buyers may have already purchased a car, and there could be less competition for these improved cars in a year or so. Other cars like the Viper, PT Cruiser, Miata, New Beetle, etc. have all been down the same path. Thanks, Rudy E.

That dealer is a schmuck.
The VIN is a real VIN alright; for a 2002 Grand Prix.

Why do they even bother?

That VIN is from a 2000 grand prix..

The GTO will be something like "6G2........123456", being that it's assembled in Australia.

All in all, that auction is for naive idiots to bid on.

Look how many bids it has...
I would be tempted to bid on it if it had the LS6 and looked remotely different than a Monaro...And those tiny azz tires? psht...fogedaboutit

That's just one dealer trying to cash in, not surprising. Same thing has been attempted on every other recent "limited" production performance car. MSRP should not be hard to get on this car I'd assume.
