GTO info

A friend just sent this to me. I thought I'd share it with you guy's.

It's from the Pontiac Owner Center:

Modern Muscle

Reigniting the GTO legend

Pontiac reaffirms its reputation for excitement and performance by

resurrecting the legendary GTO for the 2004 model year, and infusing it
with all the titillating force and allure you would expect of an
American performance icon.

This modern version of performance legend inherits all the right
traits from its revered predecessor and uses modern technology to
enhance those traits. With its 5.7-liter V8 engine planted in a
midsize,
rear-wheel-drive platform, the new 2004 GTO mirrors the muscle car
formula that made the original such a sensation when it debuted back in
1964.

But this 21st century interpretation of Pontiac's most famous and
enduring nameplate will flex muscle in its own way. The new GTO will
offer an available 6-speed manual transmission, superb handling, a
performance-oriented 3.46 axle ratio, four-wheel disc brakes with an
antilock brake system, and a state-of-the-art traction control system.

"Very early in the process, our engineers drove classic GTOs and got
a

feel for the things that made the GTO so special--such as the power,
the
launch feel, and the exhaust note," says Dave Himmelberg, program
engineering manager for the GTO development team. "We've worked hard to
make sure the 2004 GTO is true to this heritage."

With all the advances in engineering since the GTO bowed out in 1974,
the 21st century version will be better than ever, Himmelberg adds.

"The ride and handling capability will allow drivers to have as much
fun with the car on winding country roads as in a straight line," he
says. "I'm sure the GTO fans--and others--will be pleased when they get
into the car.

"This car will generate pure pleasure when the driver stomps on the
pedal, hears a powerful roar, and feels the g-force on the seat."

Below are highlights of what's packed into the next GTO (scheduled to
arrive in dealerships in December):
. LS1 5.7-liter V8 engine capable of producing approximately 350
horsepower and 365 lbs.-ft. of torque

. Exhaust note tuned to announce Pontiac performance
. Fully independent rear suspension
. Six-speed close-ratio manual transmission (or four-speed
automatic
transmission)
. 2+2 bucket seating
. 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels
. Power-assisted four-wheel ventilated disc brakes with
four-channel
antilock brake system
. Standard limited-slip differential with traction control
. Blaupunkt 200-watt, 10-speaker audio system with a six-disc CD
changer
. Standard multi-function Driver Information Center.

Thats the first I think Ive heard of a Blaupunkt stereo as a factory option in a GM car. Do any other GM cars come with this?

the blaupunkt stereo is only a recent addition even for the holdens from VY this year, heaps better than the deck it replaces.

Is it better than a 500 Watt Monsoon in the Camaro?

It better be. Its not too hard to surpass the Monsoon in my opinion.

I've found that the Monsoon in my T/A can sound really good, but very average also. Where some stereos can sound deep and rich, the Monsoon can sound tinny sometimes. I think some speakers mounted on the A pillars and in the center of the dash could have solved this. Hopefully the Goat's will be better.
