GTO Brochure Pictures
They cant put a "GREAT" set of wheels on the GTO because otherwise the dealers would have nothing to overcharge for.
Get ready for $3000-$4000 aftermarket 18 inch wheels/tire combos installed by the local dealer.
I dont think the GTO comes with a sunroof so expect anther $1300 aftermarket sunroof to be installed as well.
Im sure chromed OEM wheels will be at least and extra $1500.
Dealer dont sell cars for fun and they are going to look for ways to make extra $$ on those who must be the first to have the newest toy on the block.

New cars for the first year are very low profit since there is so many costs/expense upstart costs, advertising, and etc.
Why dump the current GTO so soon and just when it really starting to become profitable since costs have finally been recouped.

I doubt a all-new GTO will be out in 2006 and even doubt it would come out in 2007 (when the new Camaro comes out hopefully) since the existing GTO can still be made while they ramp up and start production of the new Camaro for the first year and then bring out the all new GTO to be made in the same plant a year later as a 2008 model.
A two year life cycle of the current GTO just seems to short, but 4 years does sound more realistic and even that would be very short by historical standards.
A refreshening is one thing, a completely all-new car is another.
The US built car will be based on the VE platform which is suppost to be flexable. That should make the car much easier to design and manufacture.
And all of these talks of the generation to follow this GTO are relying on this '03-'05 run being a success. I would hope this to be the case, but as we've seen already there are a lot of critics who don't care for the car's styling. Hopefully GM steps in to keep price-gouging a non-factor as well. Even Infiniti dealers are selling the hot G35 coupe for MSRP. We'll see what SLP has up their sleeves for the '03 though, and at what price.
I just wouldnt be suprised to see the current GTO get produced longer than most think to make it easier to launch the next-gen Camaro.
Considering that by the time 2007 rolls-around it would have been 5 years since the last Camaro was built and alot of pentup demand would surely exist. I would think the first year sales for a new Camaro would keep the production at full capacity and the new GTO would be brought into production a year or two later.
Most people get 5 year loans and all those 2003 GTO's would be paid for (and have around 70,000 miles on the odometer) by the time the all-new 2008 model arrives so the Pontiac dealers could sell them the new 08 GTOs.
GM might even be holding back the next-gen GTO a little longer then expected to see how the 2003 GTO does. If the 2003 GTO bombs then I would think all future versions would get canned as well.
Its all just fun speculation anyway but Im sure we will all figure it all out eventually.

I'm willing to bet that the GTO will no reappear if Camaro is meant to be built on its frame. They are both independent projects. The GTO affects the Camaro because a successful GTO (and successful 05 Mustang) proves the market for a 2+2 V8 RWD car when it is done right. Also in 2007, I don't think demand for Camaro will build up, but fade away a little...
The demand for the Camaro will always be here, think about it. They'll also always be on the streets and tracks and it will just get bigger as time goes by because of frustration and not having a new 1 to drive out of a showroom.
