you remeber the sweet offering from Ponitac a few years back!
I think it was a freakin Daewoo. Same old stuff.

And don't even get me started on the GM idea of killing the Trans AM. The last Muscle car to be built every year since year 1!!!
What do you mean "The last Muscle car to be built every year since year 1!!! "?

A Daewoo and a Manaro.....same old stuff

OUTSIDE of styling (which is completly subjective) what is it you have a problem with on the new GTO? And dont say "That they slapped the name on another platform." That platform is better than anything GM makes on this continent. Is it the interior? The power? The handling? What is it?

He meant that the T/A was built every year from the introduction year, up until its demise.

The Trans Am came out in 1969 and was offered every year till the end. The Z28 got axed in 1975 only to come back in 1977 ,when the boys figured out they could sell cars with big birds on the hood.
Burt and Sally could jump a few of them over bridges and such on the movie screen. 1979 was the highest sales year for the Camaro ever. WHY?

What other muscle car is left?

Well the firebid was avaliable in '67, and the T/A not until 69. So I wouldnt say two years off isnt exactly since day one.

Not that it matters. Your just coming up with newer arguments, cause you didnt hook as many followers in this thread as you had hoped

Thats not it at all. I knew few guy's would agree with what I was saying. That's O.K.
IMHO was hoping for more muscle car styling in the GTO.
Hood scoop, horizontal lights, old school grill and emblems.
Somthing to connect the car to it's heritage

Thats what bugs me about the car.

I cant say I would be sorry to see it. But really I think it sticks more with its heritage the way it is now. When you look at other everyday sedens during that era the GTo looked like them. It ddint have vastly radical styling. Especially not at first. Just like the GTO does today. It looks kinda different. But for the most part like other sedans today.

Barring the hood scoops I think it sticks with the names heritage like it is. I feel those should have been put on regaurdless. And they will Im sure since GM has heard so many complaints about that ONE factor.

By my calculations the '04 GTO meets all the "requirements" of what a GTO should be based on the old GTO except

1. No hood scoops
Solution: Wait until '05 or buy these scoops

2. Old GTOs were nothing more than a midsize Pontiac coupe with a bigger engine.
looks like people wanting tradition are out of luck here. Instead of Just giving us a more powerful S/C V6 FWD Grand Am and calling it GTO like GM wanted to do a few years back, They are building a World class V8 RWD car.

The original GTO had not functional hood scoops
1964

Exterior wise it was just a Tempest with fake, stuck on scoops and GTO badge in the grill.

Thank you GM for NOT following GTO history and glueing on fake scoops

At least the New GTO will be a car one of my kids will be proud of blasting down to road in 7-10 years from now. It will only help to richen the LS1 aftermarket. I have to admit it's better than a S/C v6 fwd platform. It is a step into the future for V8 RWD! O.K.
I have a feeling you guys have justified the short comings of the styling only after weighing the what if's

I think a good move for GM to have done, would have been to sell a 250HP S/C V6 Grand Am as the 2003 GTO, then everyone would have bitched, bla bla bla V6... bla bla....FWD. Then Come 2004 put out the current RWD V8 Holden based GTO and everyone would have prased the car more, and kissed GMs feet for killing the FWD V6 GTO and blessing us with a RWD V8. Could have been a neat marketing move, who knows. Maybe it would have just pissed more people off

Your right but it would of backfired as it did with the Caddy CTS
35-40K for a nice car with under powered V6.
SOLUTION: CTS V series people will line up to buy this Mercedes,
BMW player for less cash and know they got a deal!!!

Taking a bad thread to an even lower level... somehow using "CTS" and "backfire" in the same sentence....
