My thoughts exactly, not to flame here.
But the White GT's with blue stripes have caught my eye here and there, but that pic of the GT500 (yes i know its a sweet car) has just pushed me to the "I dont like there exterior ques" side of the fence.
although i respect any 450HP monster, doesnt mean i have to enjoy there exterior.
And yes, shelby is 100%

And thank you for flying Lost in Space Airlines ladies and gentlemen...
Now that we are nearing Earth, I'd like to ask that you all begin speaking in a language that is comprehensible to mere earthlings...
They will be more responsive and you will all enjoy better conversations during your visit.
Thank You, and enjoy the rest of your voyage.

The man's legendary. He was an extremely successful racer, he's had a hand in cars from Mustang to Chrysler's turbo cars, to the Viper, to the Ford GT, and now back to Mustang, and he's had a number of business enterprises in between. I've personally met him at the GR-1 unveiling at Pebble Beach last year, and found him to be a very down to earth and fun guy to talk to.
I know you were joking about the blond gal comment, but seeing Carol Shelby in the seat himself conveys to us hard core car guys that this is a serious piece of machinery, not some sort of half baked fashionware that needs some metro-sexual male model (let alone some blond bimbo) in the drivers seat.

I'm fairly confident that Z28Wilson's post was supposed to go in the thread about the Cobalt beating the tuner-ized VW and Nissan Skyline.

I don't let anyone rest on their laurels.
The Rousch Stage III is better looking, probably just as fast, and has been on the streets for at least two months already. Same applies for the Saleen S281-E, although I'm not sure that's made it to the streets yet (and don't feel like looking it up right now).
The Z28 isn't (officially) backed by any big name from racing history. Neither is the Corvette. They're backed by impressive performance and a long history of success. Caroll Shelby has my respect as a longtime racing legend, especially for his age. That's cool. It still doesn't mean I'm going to buy a car because he endorses it, or even because he designed (or helped design) it. All of my car purchases are made with the reputation of the CAR in mind.

I'm well aware of the fact that women buy cars. I am also aware that the vast majority of GT500 buyers will be men, and as such, that's who the marketing should cater to. Since Shelby's name is already on the car, I don't see any need for the ads to have him in the driver's seat as well. His name is better looking than his face, anyway.
You'll note, in my original post, that I also suggested a younger guy for the ad. Perhaps someone in the primary target market? The suggestion of using the blonde from the video I linked was really just a joke, playing off my opinion that they should have used someone more attractive than Caroll Shelby. And whether her ***** are real or not, she's definitely better looking than he is.
Aside: Should men find it insulting when a good-looking man is used to advertise something? If so, why? And if not, then why should women find it insulting when a good-looking woman is used in the same manner?

I would find that annoying also.
The fact is, many people who will be buying the GT500 will be 40 somethings who will remember everything that Shelby accomplished. They will respect the man for still having the passion for all things automotive........... and for wanting to be involved in a new version that shares one of his monikers.
This is obviously lost on you.

Certainly the Corvette has and does.

Styling is subjective. I personally do not care for the "ricer" type of styling of the Rousch Stage III (mainly the front end). Which I have seen up close and personal. With a whopping "430HP" it will get its ( ! ) kicked by the 07 Cobra with the Cobra being a glovebox full of cash cheaper. And "430HP" is ALL Rousch can get out of the 3V 4.6 and be reliable. But it will make a lil more then 430hp if its real cold outside.

Wow, too many things to respond to.
Chevy never had an official relationship with Yenko or Lingenfelter, like Ford has with Shelby. You'll note that I said "officially" in my previous post.
The Rousch Stage III Mustang for the new generation isn't out yet. I've seen the Stage II, and I still like the looks better than the GT500. I thought it was ricey at first too, but I've seen several up close and in person, and it's been growing on me. The previous-generation Stage III car had a supercharged 5.4L, so you can bet that the new one will as well. No word on price...
Gloria, I understand what you're saying about scantily-clad models being irritating. Indeed, I don't want to see Chippendale dancers in TV ads, and I understand that you don't want to see female strippers. I never said anything about scantily-clad, though. Attractive people can wear clothes too, you know.
Your argument, believe it or not, is not lost on me. I completely understand that there are a bunch of 40-somethings that remember Caroll Shelby, recognize his face, and will buy his car. I just happen to disagree. As I said before, I don't buy a car because I respect the man whose name is on it. I buy a car because I like the car.
