Grand Am's still around.

Just so you don't forget it's still around, even though the G6 is out soon.

2005 is it's last year.

I have always loved the current gen Grand Am...

The mags always beat it up for being boy-racerish...but I loved the design.

Put an Alero dash in it and give it actual buiild quality and my '02 GT coupe could have been a great car...emphasis on could...

Its sad to see the Grand Am go. I owned a 99 GT and I loved it. Good car for what it was. It never gave me any problems, until I rolled it. I will chalk that one up to user error though.

c-ya grand am, biggest piece of junk I have ever driven, problems from day 1, I actually won a lawsuit against GM for the pile of heap, U could not give me another one, what really bothered me the most was I trusted my ford more than my GM

Re: Grand Am's still around.

I dunno. I guess I've been luckier than some. I have two GAs, a 95 SE that's still going pretty strong and other than replacing the alternator, the steering rack and a couple of LCA bushings it has been pretty trouble free mechanically. Any other fixes were just routine maintenance. Paint-wise though there has been the dreaded delamination but that's not really a N-body specific problem. I really don't know why GM doesn't just step up and deal with this pervasive problem.

I also have an 03 GT that has yet to give even a hint of problem. Oil changes and tire rotation - that's all. The only "gripe" (and it has nothing to do with the car) I have is that it's a black car and seems to be a magnet for scratches - 99.5% of which can be taken care of with some rubbing compound - I just haven't gotten the time to do it yet. I've even had a degree of exclusivity so to speak since it's the only one locally with the SC/T hood and wing and GAs are dime-a-dozen around here. Yeah, it's a sea of plastic and I'm not really in love with the dash, but there's more pluses than minuses with the car. All in all, it is an aggressive looking car and I do like the styling. This car does turn heads on occasion. It's also obvious where the beancounters cut corners/costs in comparing the two GAs that I have.

Did I want to take on another GA, well no, not really. I would have preferred moving to an 04 GP but the deal was fantasatic. I would really have preferred an 04 (OK, 98-02) TA or Camaro but they are extremely rare here. Hell, even sighting an LS-1 car around here is cause for celebration - they are that rare.

I'd like to sample a G6 for comparison. When 07 rolls around and it's time to turn in the 03, I'm hoping to be not so sure what car to replace it with - a G6 (GTP with 6-speed pls), Camaro, GTO or perhaps some other affordable RWD car GM may hopefully have on the market. Only 3 years to go...:-(
