I think the 5 speeds are putting out over 280. The auto's less...not just because it's an auto....but because the motor's different. I think they have different heads, cams, and compression.

M5 Mach 1's are averaging 270-280 RWHP. That's about what the 99/01 Cobra made, but the Mach DOHC has a much wider powerband, and is not saddled with the IRS. One reason they run so well in the 1/4 mile is the gearing - not just the 3.55s in the rear, but the really low 3.37 1st gear in the tranny. Combine that with the hefty rpm potential and ETs come down nicely.

That is very accurate RWHP for the mach.I don't think the 99-01 cobras made that though, more like 250-260.

96-98 Cobra's dyno'd in the 250-260 RWHP range. 01 and post-recall 99s dyno 270-280. Mine made 277 RWHP in stock trim:

Last summer they were going for sticker PLUS a $5,000 dealer mark up. Ever since the '05 Mustang was introduced, it seems that demand for the SN-95 Mustang has dried up.

You can probably get an '04 Mach1 right now for invoice and a $3,000 rebate. Less than 24g's! For a Mach1...WOW! A local dealer was advertising an '03 Mach1 with 750 miles on it for 21k and some change.

Z, you shouldn't be telling me things like that, especially right now. My 97 Z has just recently developed a slight manifold leak at 123,000 miles.

Combine that with all the other little irritating mechanical failures I had to deal with on my Camaro that I didn't have to deal with on any of the Mustangs or Thunderbirds I owned at the same mileage and you are really making me think things I shouldn't be thinking.

Looking at the pics of Werm's Bullit Mustang doesn't help either.

Just to ease your heart....There are plenty of cheap, low milage LS1 cars out there!

I hear ya though. Just got done work fixing some steering slop. Both window motors, 2 manifold leaks, oil sending unit, fan relay, and tranny mount have been fixed prior to this. But at least the car is paid off!!

Oh and the engine itself is bulletproof and strong!

There was a brand new Sonic Blue Mustang GT with the premium package at the Ford dealership two miles from my house on the show room floor for only $15,990. I admit I was tempted, but that 2005 is just a bit more tempting.

As Bob said the hp is the same but the Mach has a 25 lb/ft advantage peak at the wheels.

I saw them advertised in 2001 new for the same price. As I said before, the deals are out there. Funny how people did not believe me when I quoted the same price in a thread in the lounge.

March 5th is the last day to place orders for the "Fox" Mustang.

Then for a few months, for the 1st time in 40 years, you will not be able to order ANY new US made pony or "muscle" cars.

For a short time, the only muscle car you can order will be the Pontiac GTO.

Ditto on problems with the power windows, add in broken clips holding in the drivers PW switches, alternator, a fuel pump that requires the rear axle to be dropped to get to (instead of an access panel in the cargo floor) a ripped clutch... not from abuse (all these things happened before 55,000 miles), water pump (before 100,000), & a fuel guage that's hopelessly useless at 1/4 tank and below.

On my 85 Mustang the only problems I had before 120,000 miles was a frozen air pump at 90K, on my 93 Mustang I needed a new master cylinder at 118K, and my 1st Thunderbird SC fried it's AC pulley just over 120K. I never did replace the clutch in that car, and I sold it at 140,000 miles!

Either I've had pretty outrageously great luck with my cars or Camaro's (and by association, GM) quality was well behind Ford's in the 1990s. I'd rate my Camaro as the 2nd worse car (out of 20) that I've ever owned. In all fairness, Ford's customer service went down the crapper in the '90s, so in an odd way, it evens out.

If it wasn't for the fact I love the engine, I would have gotten rid of my Camaro long ago. That's also one of the reasons why I wasn't going to buy an almost identical newer Camaro, LS1 or not.

I'd love to give Chevy another chance (the worse car I ever owned was a 1981 6 cylinder Mustang... this was before quality was "Job One" at Ford). But I'm not going to wait till the 2008 model year to do it. Especially with $23,000 Mach1s out right now, well made and very fast Pontiac GTOs, the likely return of a LX type Mustang V8, Shortened LX chassis Charger Hemi R/T sedans, and perhaps even an El Camino all coming to showrooms within the next 15 to 18 months.

2-3 year old BMW M3s are also becoming pretty affordable.

Ford seems to have gotten their introduction issues under control, and they seem to have stopped penny pinching on new models for the time being, and Chrysler is starting to enforce Mercedes-like quality in their new vehicles (just look at Pacifica & Durango ), and I've always been blown away by the quality of cars from down under (especially GM-Holden!)

Went and looked at a new Azure Blue (sweet color) Mach last night. A VERY nice car. A few observations...

1) An extremely tight clutch. Much worse then the F-Bods.

2) Fit and finish is typical Ford-like. Howerver, I thought the hood scoop was plastic. Turns out that its aluminum. Nice.

3) A very unique car-Had a console I'd never seen anything resembling before. And the gauges were sweet.

I don't know about the brand new 04's, but you'll find slightly used 03's for that much.
