Good news for the Impala SS
Good news for the Impala SS

I imagine all of those are retal sales. Plus they are high profit cars with a base MSRP of $28K. 250,000-300,000 Impalas a year, x 18% = 45,000-54,000 LS4 Impalas per year. If the Commadore sells for $30K in the US w/ a 367HP L76 they should sell every single one real fast.
Catton points to the success of the 2006 Impala SS, which accounted for 18 percent of the model's production, up from the automaker's projected 10 percent.

Re: Good news for the Impala SS
I'm also told that Monte Carlo SS is running about 50% of MC's retail sales, also far above expectations.
I'd say this helps makes a case for a premium Chevy sports coupe.

Re: Good news for the Impala SS
50% of retail sales works out to less than 3,100 MC SS's through the first half of the year.

Re: Good news for the Impala SS

GM has sold 27,581 Monte Carlos to date this year (20% increase over last year, but still 400 fewer than Corvette).
Pull out the fleet sales, and half of what's left does put us in the pretty depressing range of 3-5,000 cars. GTO even did alot better.
But then, how much of that low number is due to MC being around since 1999 (7 model seasons) in a class (coupes) where cars get old after just a few years. Again, far more expensive GTOs sold better (8895 so far this year, and it's been out of production since August).
This is the same stage Camaro was in when it was discontinued, so any sales arguement that could be waged against a MC replacement can be used to even greater effect against the Camaro. An MC replacement can be made using the Impala structure. Camaro needed a new, almost totally unique one.

Yeah, I know, they lump the coupes into their total numbers.
Re: Good news for the Impala SS
It would be hard to believe that 50% of all Camaro sales were SS or even Z28's combined durring the final years... although we are talking more cars total.
What we need to know is how many of total MC's produced went to retail.
(if 3 to 6000 MC's were SS's, that means 6 to 12,000 total MC's went to retail or roughly 79% to 57% were fleet???) Didn;t realize it was that high.
Also, not only do they include Solara and Accord Coupes in with their sedans, I've never seen a break down of how many were acturally I4's and V'6s. Again I would say not a direct competator to the MC.

Re: Good news for the Impala SS
But thats 50% of Retail MC were SS.... Not total MC's. Where did you get the 3,100 MC SS's were produced??? What that tells me is that 50% of people who went to the dealership opt. for the SS model... which is excellent. Tough to compare to GTO sales since the GTO had few options.

The number Charlie came up with is based on the news that over 50% (close to 60% if I remember) goes to low profit fleet sales & rental companies. MC sold just over 27K cars this year, meaning 10-12 or so retail. I got word that most of MC's retail sales were the new V8 powered SS, which is down around the 5K range.
Charlie's 3K is kind of low, but it still shows a stark difference in sales between the supposedly too expensive GTO (nearly 9K this year) and the 3-5K Monte Carlo SS. It's perfectly good to compare the 2 since we are talking about large loaded V8 performance coupes, one from a division that has over 4,000 dealers and the other that's probally around 2-3K.
Re: Good news for the Impala SS
Wow, people like big ol American cars w/ V8 power....what a concept!
It is a fun car. Would be more fun if it were RWD, but compared to what it replaced, no contest!
