I've pulled a 100 bushel wagon with an old Chevy truck ~250ft-lbs. I don't understand the push for "extreme" power.

You guys hate me, I know. lol

But IMO, the money would be better spent elseware.
I think the difference in the old chevy trcuk with 250 ft-lbs vs a new one with 400 is that the new one isn't geard to die at 50 mph. Also they will get better gas mileage.

LOL, TRUE!

Nothing like running down the Interstate at 65mph @4500RPM, hehe.

I agree, the power is cool in the SS and maybe HD models. Everybody gets wet over HUGE MONSTER torque numbers. Look at the Duramax? 650ft-lbs+

I guess I just don't understand unless your using it for Commercial use who the hell would ever need that much power???

Re: GMT-900 Silverado SS

people just like fast trucks... nothing wrong with more power.. right?

anyways, I was thinking.. is the HRR listed as a light duty truck (ala PT Cruiser)?

IF so, wouldn't that help out GM for the CAFE light truck avg's?

and also, wouldn't that free up GM to something a little more extreme in the truck field, if they have the HRR to help balance things out?

Does anyone believe for a moment that GM is going to get a class leading 400 lb/ft of torque out of the 5.3 liter? In reality, the 5.3 might very well have the least torque in its class.

As I've said all along, GM needs to make a class-leading engine standard equipment in every Silverado. To lead the full sized 1/2 ton truck segment in the near future will require a torque rating at (or near) 400lb/ft.

That isn't going to happen.

Somebody obviously missed the thread that stated that the "little" 5.3 was "only" going to put out 355 hp and 380 ft-lbs.

Edit: I imagine that with the 5.3 making that power then the 6.0 will be upwards of 425 hp and 450 ft-lbs.

well I donno what people are pulling, but im my friends 3500 when he was moving, and loaded up his car trailor w/ his home belongings going over some of these hills even with that 8.1 the damn thing couldnt stay in any gear...
that would be so nice, if when my parents went to denver with just 2 horses in there F350 V10, that it stayed in overdrive over those rockys... but nope... the gear hunting begins...

And just when will this conjectural 355hp 5.3 liter actually go on sale?

The answer is, "Too late."

It seems very likely that the so-called 6.0 will displace more than 6 liters.

After all of the mysterious delays, I'd be very reluctant to buy one of GM's first year 6-speed slushboxes. GM is not know to get things right on the first try.

I guess he thinks it's too late for GM to wrestle away any of that massive 150K in annual sales volume Nissan has managed to capture with the Titan. Afterall, it takes GM almost a full two months to sell that many trucks!

Nissan has the highest profit margins in entire industry.

GM is bleeding red ink and its debt has been downgraded to junk status.

Re: GMT-900 Silverado SS

Alright guys. I was talking with the Marketing Manager for Silverado/Avalanche two weeks ago. He met with some members of SilveradoSS.com and asked us what we want in the next gen SilveradoSS.

There will NOT be a new SS at launch, and i was lead to beleive work on a next gen SSS has only just started. He also mentioned something about using SilveradoSS.com members for input and clinics in the near future. I can't wait!

Well, we know its not Nissan's trucks that are pulling in the profit then huh?
