GMT-900 Silverado SS

Will the GMT-900 version of Silverado SS be available from the get-go (I doubt)... or even in the first model year of the new Silverado production?

Or will it be added to the line a year or more later?

I'd guess that depends on whether it has the LS2 or a S/C LS2.

I could see them doing an LS2 SS and a S/C 6.0L for the Supercharged SS a year later.

Am I the only one who hates this "SS" and "Supercharged SS" nonsense. I never liked it on the Monty Carlos, I don't like it on the Cobalt coupes and sedans, and I sure wouldn't like it on the Silverado. It is just too confusing. Just use the SS nomenclature as the top dog insignia, blower or not.

SS and SS Supercharged? Ha! That's nothing. Did you see the Trailblazer SS. SSLS and SSLT.

Assuming that the GMT-900 Silverado SS shares its entire drivetrain with the GMT-900 Cadillac Escalade, the answer would be yes, you'll see a Silverado SS in the first year of GMT-900 pickup production.

Of course, it would be better to see that every mainstream Silverado has Silverado SS levels of performance. Not that GM would ever do that.

Did you see the numbers of the engine lineup in the GMT900 line? The new Silverado is going to absolutely maul the competition in HP and torque in every comparable motor. The new 6.0 is going to have well over 400 HP! Even the run-of-the-mill 5.3 is set to have 350....

Hemi?
5.4 Ford?
Nissan Titan?

The big problem is that higher power peaks don't do very much for the performance of big, heavy trucks. GM is preparing to make some big horsepower claims, but they won't have much to brag about in the torque department.

Does anyone believe for a moment that GM is going to get a class leading 400 lb/ft of torque out of the 5.3 liter? In reality, the 5.3 might very well have the least torque in its class.

As I've said all along, GM needs to make a class-leading engine standard equipment in every Silverado. To lead the full sized 1/2 ton truck segment in the near future will require a torque rating at (or near) 400lb/ft.

That isn't going to happen.

And yet no one complains about the 1st gen RS/SS's. In practice, what is the difference?

are you still mad becuase nissan hasn't figured out how to make a truck? Oh well, hopefully someday they can compete.

When has GM recently released a V8 engine with a lot more HP than torque??

Notice I said "HP AND torque." Didja see that redzed, or did you conveniently skip over that part like you selectively read everything else. Who can re-post the numbers for the next line of truck motors? I did a search but came up empty.

Good point. In fact, other than Honda (VTEC anyone?), who makes a motor with nearly double the horsepower output as torque? If GM's 6.0 in the GMT-900 makes 430 HP, you can bet it won't make just 300 ft/lbs of torque. The same goes for your basic 1/2 ton. The new V8's will most certainly deliver.

You have Toyota in mind. Nissan did a pretty good job with their imo.

The next line of GMT-900 trucks should be pretty solid in the powertrain department. I just hope they do a decent job with the interior. That's where the current GMT-800's suffer greatly. I know they're trucks, and don't need to have the best cabin in the business (something that doesn't hurt btw), but everyone else has turned their interiors up a notch.

Re: GMT-900 Silverado SS

400ft-lbs - blah. What's next 1000?

What are people pulling with these trucks? ummm yeah - NOTHING.

I've pulled a 100 bushel wagon with an old Chevy truck ~250ft-lbs. I don't understand the push for "extreme" power.

You guys hate me, I know. lol

But IMO, the money would be better spent elseware.
