GM's sales dropped 32% (right up there with Ford's 34.9%)last month over last year, 40% for the automotive side. Malibu sales down over 30%, Grand Am sales down 51%, GM own SAAB dropped 63% (ironically Olds Alero is UP 8%!

The top 20 figures posted here not long ago were year-to-date figures. By a month to month (october 2001 vs October 2002) things don't look so good at the moment. Chrysler (!) is currently the only company with sales increases, but they also saw a slight decrease in market share.

One more bit of news, according to Automotive News, the traditional big 3 automakers are down to only about 50% of the new car market. In short, imports are increasing bigtime, and 0% is loosing steam. The amazing thing (other than Chrysler increasing sales & loosing market size) is that despite Ford's quality "issues", it's barely worse off than GM.

The upside is that they still dominate the truck & SUV market......way to go!

 

I support domestic automakers as much as anyone here. But for the past 15 years the domestic manufacturers, GM more than anyone, have been building and trying to pawn off crap on the public compared to the cars Honda, Toyota, and even Nissan are building. It's taken awhile but I find it hard to believe GM and Ford thought it would never catch up with them.

 

Rather ironic that Alero sales are up...

 

Oh, and CTS sales jummped to almost 5,000 units. You don't even want to know how that compares to Camaro let alone Firebird sales did.

Well, to put it this way, if CTS sales hold, they are looking at over 50,000 CTSs sold this year. 2000 was the last year the f-bodies sold that combined, 1998 was the last year Camaro sold more than that alone, and the last year Firebird sold more than that alone was in '89.

Or...roughly about as much as the Monte Carlo (+/- 5,000 per month) .

And that has to be higher than the business case for the car projected, I'd think!

I hope this shows RWD *IS* wanted in today's market. I also hope it shows that nice looking, forward thinking exterior design is also a great way to go. (All this retro talk.... frustrates me, in case you never noticed... )

ya if you look at other cars, and the value you get for the cheap price, the import companies are winning. look at those kia 10 year waranties

 

Hmm what were car sales like overall? I have to think that people would rather not buy a new car in late fall with winter coming up for much of the country. I'm not too surprised at CTS success compared to F-body. It's a much more liveable package with a modern chassis, interior, Cadillac features/build quality all at about the price of an SS/WS6.

 

I wonder how that could be with all the cool, desirable cars that GM currently offers?!

 

who would have thought.. a cadillac for a friggin camaro muscle car replacement. Man, I love it.

 

If Cadillac possibly can push 50,000 single model V6 sedans, imagine what it could do not only with the V-series comming up, but also if they added a coupe & convertible to that line.


Also, another point someone brought up, what if GM canned the 0% financing and replaced it with a 10 year warranty like Kia has. Would that be a better move for GM?
