He says in his break down of the 3 sections that he does not like the retro styling. For whatever reasons, thats up to him. What I dont understand is if he is so against all these things about the Mustang, i.e. its a Ford, the retro design, then why buy it?

Quite frankly, because I miss RWD, a manual tranny, and V8 power... so much so, that I can look past some of the other issues.

That feeling will pass quickly.

When I purchased my SVT Contour, it sort of gave me a funny feeling for afew days....but I got over it in no time.

Basically, I expect Chevy to annouce and show the new Camaro concept right around the time I am getting ready to buy whatever it is I decide to buy, and throw a monkey wrench into the whole thing...

Good problem, I suppose, if it does happen.

See Darth, you should have never sold the Z !

I know you're not asking for advice, but here it is anyway. If you're gonna keep the Monte, and you want a C5, get an '02/'03 AFTER the C6 comes out, those C5's value will be nicely depressed then.

If you want a C6, but don't like the styling, don't get it. I too have issues w/ the front end (and yes, I've seen it in person), enough so that I will not drop $50k for one. If they were $13k off sticker like C5's are, sure, but not at 50, and you KNOW C6's are gonna be selling at sticker for a looong time.

GTO, can't go wrong (seen it), unless the trunk or price bothers you. But so close to MY05, wait a few months and see what the '05s do to the '04 prices, you may be suprised.

Mustang, again, seen it in person, NICE car! I too am a GM loyalist (but a lot has to do with getting GMS than anything else), but I'll tell ya, the Mustang is a nicely styled car, not as retro as you would think in person, as strange as that sounds. If nothing else, get one on a 3 yr lease, then turn it in and get a 2 door Chevrolet Coupe

But above all else, wait a few months. You'll be able to see and drive all three of these yourself then, and that will help the decision process. And if it ends up that you go the used route, everything that's on your list will be one year older in value, but only a few months older in reality. Keep us posted

I'm with you, Darth. We got our Montes about the same time and if GM doesn't "pony up" a pony car soon - or put some incentives on the GTO - I'm going to be driving a Mustang. I've never driven anything but GM and my father (now retired) was a Buick/Chevy salesman for more than 30 years, but with the current choices from GM, looks like I'll have my first Ford next year. I don't have the budget for a 'Vette, or that would be my first choice for sure. I'm also with you that the GTO's styling isn't a dealbreaker for me, but the price is. At $30,000 out the door, I might be more interested, but current pricing is prohibitive for me - especially when new Mustang GT is rumored to not be much more expensive than the current model.

If the Charger looks good, has a manual trans, and dealers are dealing.....that will probably be my next car.

The Mustang GT is high on my list though.

The GTO needs to be quite abit cheaper for me to overlook some of it's issues..however.

I like to buy American, but sometimes they just don't have anything that floats your boat. That's the reason I got the WRX. There was no American company offering a sporty AWD car, much less one that was turbo'd, got decent mileage and had an aftermarket as big as if not bigger than the Mustang's. In a couple of years I see my self in an American car (most likely a SE Mustang) unless someone (even foreign) come out with something better that meets what I want in a car. God bless the now build me an AWD sports car!!!

I'll also add that I am considering a CTS as well... but the lack of a V8 (unless I go all the way to a V-Series) and the 4-doors kindof push it down for me.

I [b] love [/i] this car... but I want a coupe.

I never said you said "hate".
I never said you said he said "hate".
I said "hate".
Please read my post closely! <humor intended here pal!>

But again, using your exact wording this time, he must not be "so against all these things about the Mustang" or he wouldn't have it on his consideration list at all.

Having issues with any car is normal. Who doesn't have something about their car that they wouldn't change if they could, so I don't expect Darth (or even myself) to find the Mustang or any other car flawless.
The difference is in whether those things are petty and can be tolerated or even ignored (like a remote gas cap release that's stuck in the glovebox), and when those things are significant and cause you to regret or forego ownership of the unit (like a Toyota badge on the fender! J/K!!!).
I don't care if it's the most popular car on the planet, if the car doesn't "fit" the owners wants and requirements, he shouldn't buy it.

One last thing... TEST DRIVES.
Or even rentals.
For a $59-weekend rental, you can find out real fast and real honestly if the car is a "fit" in your lifestyle and expectations.

And Darth, if GM has chosen to position Chevrolet as the best provider of common transportation, thereby largely abandoning the pony car market and enthusiasts, I think it is THEM who should feel guilty about "backstabbing" you, and leaving you with no choices. They made a decision based on money, profits, and market feedback - you have a different set of criteria to make your decision from, it's that easy. You have more than demonstrated your loyalty to them, so where's their loyalty to you?

You can still buy everything else GM... SUV's, daily buzz-box, pickup truck, or whatever they offer that you like. I saw MANY GM trucks pulling Mustangs on trailers at the recent show in Nashville, and never heard a word about it.

It's your call dude.
Do what your heart (and wallet) tell you to, and sleep good that night.

I have to tell you I felt the same until I got my WRX. Four doors is unbelieveably convenient. Not only that, but it lowers your insurance

Eh... my wife wanted a 4-door when we traded in her Monte SS on the 04 GTP... I have to tell you, I really really dislike the B-pillar right over my shoulder like you have with all 4 door cars... that and the image of a 4-door, I guess... being 32 years old, I guess I am still part of the generation(s) that most think having more than 2 doors is "uncool"...

Also, simply having 4-doors lowering your insurance is a myth, too, BTW...

I'm 31...I didn't think it was "uncool"

Well, in Texas, it does lower your insurance

I think sedans lower your insurance all over the board. Maybe because a sedan is a more 'family oriented' vehicle and all the conservative driving that's related to it.

Dunno, don't care, my sedan ('94 GP) is the second car in the family, lowered insurance is a plus. Also putting the Camaro on 'second billing' dropped my rates on it.

Any, I'm 32. My main reason for liking coupes is styling. With 2 doors there's one less parting line on the side to interupt the cars lines. Plus, up until rencently coupes have had a lower, more rakish hood line. Now, what would be cool if someone designed a coupe with the door handles in the B-piilar (ala Beretta) and place the gas filler cap behind the driver's taillight again. That would make for some clean lines.

For my "fun cars", 4-doors is DEFINITELY uncool!
For a baby-hauler, family hauler, grocery-getter, vacation mobile... nothing BUT 4-doors will do.

My solution was to have my fun-car, and let wifey drive the 4-door SUV. She does most of the baby-hauling anyways. This approach allowed me to stay completely away from crossovers and one-does-all vehicles, which suits me and her both just fine.

PS - I'm a little older than both you guys...
