I like it, assuming they don't dumb the styling down too much.

Make one V8 (or HO V6), AWD, and able to tow something like a snowmobile trailer and I will own one.

Re: GMC Granite Compact Pickup Truck Concept

It is the size of a shoebox, so I doubt the V8, or even a V6 is happening.

Where did you find size info? I'd like to read more about it.

Re: GMC Granite Compact Pickup Truck Concept

I'm assuming it is just a pickup / "El Camino" version of the Granite compact CUV, which was GMC's version of the Chevy Orlando, which is a slightly bigger, HHR type vehicle.

I wouldn't expect a V8 in this thing either. It would be FWD (or maybe AWD) and powered by a 4 cylinder.

I'm just speculating, having read nothing about it aside from this thread...

Re: GMC Granite Compact Pickup Truck Concept

It is based on either Delta II or Gamma, so no V8 in this little guy. You might be able to get a 275HP turbo 4cyl. with AWD though. If I had to take a guess, I'd expect the SIDI 2.4L to be the standard engine, but that is only my guess/opinion.

Granite was smaller and didn't have a 3rd row. It might have been a Tahoe/Suburban type relationship.

Turbo 3.0L is coming to the Lambdas. Hopefully they make a new GMC Typhoon by putting it in the GMC Terrain too.

Re: GMC Granite Compact Pickup Truck Concept

the bed must be tiny in this thing. I don't understand what market it would appeal to with overly compromised utility and polarizing styling. I don't see it going right from concept to production vehicle.

Re: GMC Granite Compact Pickup Truck Concept

From the article
Propulsion for the front-wheel-drive Granite runabout would come from a frugal 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine.
They also said they probably wouldn't produce it and that it is just a design study. The various features of the bed would be nice to have in a production small truck though.

I wonder how much interior space this would have. It would be neat for someone that perhaps lived in the city and hauled occasional loads, but most of the time just needed an economical commuter... that looks way different than other cars out there.

But then again, they already make something like this for other markets...

Yeah the styling is not nearly as wild, I just meant a small truck-like vehicle. And it even fits a motorcycle in the bed...
