...and I should have added that I believe in 2004, that was the ONLY S-10 you could buy... so there really isn't any data to compare.

From wikipedia:
2010
The 2010 S10 is produced in Brazil only, as of right now. It is offered in four different body styles: Colina (base), Tornado, Executive, and Advantage. The drivetrains are the 2.4 L flexpower engine and the 2.8 L turbo diesel motor. It has an enhanced safety system including collision avoidance, steel ladder type frame, two stage multileaf rear springs, crush zones, side door beams, PASSlock system, remote keyless entry, and driver and passenger side airbags. It also has features to keep it looking good throughout the life of it, such as a corrosion resistant frame, galvanized steel body panels, advanced clear coat paint, double wall welded pickup box, and stainless steel exhaust.
I was just about to post to make mine a regular cab, long bed, with a split bench, LNF and 5spd manual, but dang a 2.8L turbo diesel would be sweet!

This was all the rage with the younger crowd in the 90's.

At least someone had the foresight to keep going with the overall idea.

I'll take a "real" truck with a "real" bed over any of those fugly unibody trucks!

The S-10 was just "magic."

Overall, it was cheap (or could be cheaply optioned), it could be very fuel efficient, or it could be quite zippy, manul or auto, it had tons and tons of different configurations, you could get a slammed body clad exteme or a jacked up off road ZR2, manual or power windows/doors, reg, ext, or crew cab, long bed or short, the list goes on and on, not to mention most think that it was a great looking truck. It also had (and still has) HUGE aftermarket support. I don't think we'll ever see another pick-up as "versatile" as the S-10 was.

Yeah, a GM Ridgeline isn't high on my list of must-sees.

I'd hope they put the 4.3 back in it! Everyone loved the 4.3, and lots at the dealership were turned off by a "5 cylinder??!!"

I had a '96 Sonoma SLS regular cab, shortbed. 2.2, M5, 3.73. Pretty stripped except for the uplevel interior. I loved that little truck. I lowered it, put ZQ8 rims on it, installed factory fog lamps and a factory CD player. I drove the hell out of it. Some jackass crossed the centerline and it collected my truck. Even in death, it performed admirably.

Then I got an '89 S-15 4x4 as a stop-gap vehicle until I could get my Colorado. It was a long bed, regular cab. It had nothing in it except the A/T, cassette, and cruise. The thing was a rot box but it ran great. I even kept it as a winter rat after the Colorado came in.

I got my then-g/f an '89 Blazer as a winter rat. I kept that until I moved to St. Louis.

And now I have a '99 Blazer as a winter vehicle/dog vehicle. Paid 3K for this one and it was worth every penny.

But I do really like my Colorado as well. I just wish it had a better interior and a bit more refinement. The use of the 3.6 V-6 would have went a long way to increase the refinement level.
I hope the next small truck keeps the Colorado's dimensions. I think they are just about perfect.

As a sidebar, my Colly is EXACTLY like the white one pictured in this thread.

I don't quite understand your comment. The Tacoma is larger than the Colorado. Are you saying the Colorado is to big to be a successor to the S10 but the Tacoma is a worthy successor?
