GM in talks to buy Chrysler....
From AN:
DaimlerChrysler is reportedly talking with General Motors about the possibility of GM's buying the Chrysler group, according to the German magazine Manager Magazin.
The magazine cited company sources as saying the talks were in full swing but still at an early stage.
The report came today as DaimlerChrysler AG said it was open to all options for the Chrysler group. Chrysler today

It'd be cool, but GM just tore down olds. They have no business to buy a car company if they are gonna dismember it. They must first make sure they are in control of their business.
It would be ashamed to see all that heritage lost.

so soes that mean ownership or being seperate from MB?? what??
And it would take years right??
ANd the funny thing is they get rid of Olds but gain Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep??
Other had if they did have a control of them they would be on top as far as the eye can see in sales again for a while..both the Ram and 900 trucks. Plus Jeep..

I think the big question is who has the money to buy Chyrsler group? Also, with the intergration of the 3, does it make sense to try and split up Chrysler?

Zeta/LS seems to me will compete with the LX/Hemi better and cheaper. I dont see the gain, and for up scale GM already has Sigma. Do you really see a gain in another platform etc here or are you just going through the what ifs and this would be neat?
Aquiring Jeep and integrating it into hummer on the other hand!!!!!!!!! two brands that have the same idea and do it well with little overlap. Hummer was a jeep offspring after all...
My what ifs though probably not realistic
LS2 Crossfire
V10 Camaro
I like the Viper and Challenger too...

+ Put the brakes on Zeta and badge the LX as an Impala and a Buick
+ Rebadge the GM900 as the Dodge Ram
+ Keep the Nitro, PT Cruiser, Minivans, Viper, maybe Dakota/Durango
+ Shut down everything else

GM has nothing to gain. The only reason people ever buy Chrysler is for Jeep, and GM's own Hummer brand is stomping all over it.
That said, I would love to see Chrysler somehow solvent and on its own again. I really don't think the German guys ever really "got" Chrysler.

You're off your ****ing rocker.
And I'll follow it up with a:
What the **** are you thinking?
Common sense has to play a part somewhere. I'm glad you found the opposite side of the spectrum.

Total Jeep sales for 2006 = 460,052 (with 5 models)
Total Hummer sales for 2006 = 71,524 (with 3 models)
The Grand Cherokee or Liberty out sell the entire Hummer brand on their own.

Wouldn't Toyota be in the best position to buy into Chrysler? Toyota is looking to increase production so would be able to buy extra manufacturing capacity cheaply... not that price would be a sticking point for cash rich Toyota. Personally, I'd hate to see a Japanese based manufacturer buy an American icon.
I'd be stating nothing new by saying there's a lot of rich history in Hemis and Chrysler/Dodge muscle cars. Daimler Benz didn't sanitize the muscle by transplanting Merc engines into Chryslers/Dodges. In fact, Daimler embraced the heritage and reintroduced the Hemi, and a host of serious image machines - past, present and still hopefully future.
