That is BS the Malibu is on EPI and so was the SAAB 9-3, which had Nav as an option. So did the rebadged Caddy BTS.

True, but the insiders claimed the Saab design couldn't be built in NA for whatever reason. Cheaper just to move to EpII.

I guess I'm confused, what does a car's structure have to do with whether or not the car offers a navigation system?

What?!?!?!??? Do you expect the current Malibu to just go on as is forever?? I know you better than that. Fusion came out in 2006 and then was updated for 2010, is that throwing in the towel? Accord was 03-07 before they put out a new one. I like that GM is going for 4 year product cycles with the Malibu. If you want to sell a car you have keep it fresh.

2012 Malibu looks BMWish http://jalopnik.com/tag/2012-chevy-malibu/ sounds neat.

You guys missed my point. I am glad the car is being replaced in 2012, but they have 2 more model years of the current model to sell. Why make it yesterday's news already...by showing it's replacement so far before for the new one comes out?

Now I think when this was posted, we all thought we would have a public reveal of the car today..that obviously is not the case, as they just showed it to journalists. This obviously makes more sense.

The explanation I've read has something to do with wiring harnesses and bus protocols. Essentially GM cheaped out on Epsilon I so that it couldn't support a nav system - Saab fixed it, but GMNA wouldn't.
