Re: GM sales for March, 2006

One thing that was mentioned on the monthly bulletin broadcast was that March 2005 had some pretty hefty fleet sales, which was lessened this March (which would partially explain why some of the bread and butter cars are down). In addition, it was also stated that March '05 had some pretty hefty incentives piled on, while they are much less this month. Apparently GM has not been the highest in terms of incentives for 7 months in a row now (Chrysler is now the highest, iirc).

Nice to see the newer stuff selling well, but definitely more to be done.

I didn't realize that heavy March 05 fleet sales... so, that makes some sense.... on the other hand... as much as they are spurned, fleet sales are sales nonetheless....

And, I agree about the incentives breing much higher in 05... Of course, wasn't the lower MSRP's (even though you end up paying more for the cars now vs the higher MSRPs + incentives) supposed to handle a good portion of this problem?

Impala!

It's pretty clear from that breakdown that the older and more boring cars are losing share, while the newer stuff is picking up steam. I suppose if GM can keep churning out not only new, but exciting cars, all of their troubles would be over . BTW, the new CTS on 60 minutes is SWEET.

Yeah, DCX is officially the new incentive *****. Other than the LXs, I can't believe some of the cash on these suckers...$6,000 dealer cash on an '05 Ram, anyone???

I just did an ad for Saturday's paper...a $28,900 '05 Ram for $20,200...I don't even want it, and I'm thinking of buying it to resell it

The thing that got me, though.............. is that RETAIL sales were down 17%. Fleet sales were only down 5%.

That is the ugly number.

Re: GM sales for March, 2006

I was happy to see DCX was up 7%, but almost choked on my popcorn when I saw GM was down 17%...

It saddens the crap out of me to see things like that. If I have one more salesperson tell me "well, its good you got out of GM sales when you did...they suck," I'm going to b!tchslap them. I appreciate their appreciation of me being here, and I'm trying to keep my GM bias down a little...I don't know for how long though

On a side note, I saw somewhere that Prius ("Pious"?) sales are down 23%. I thought hybrids were all the rage right now?

Maybe you are the reason that GM's sales are down 17%?

Re: GM sales for March, 2006

Working on a higher profit margin the 17% drop may not be as bad as it sounds. I'd rather sell a few less with more money, then give them away and sell millions...

You'd have to see all the data to make a valid conclusion.

What is really disappointing to me is the sales performance of the Colorado / Canyon. These trucks need an engine option real quick.
