GM sales figures for April and highlights of intrest.

It's on http://www.media.gm.com/ under news releases on May 4th 2004. The highlights:

*GM made 401,451 cars and trucks.

*GM's car sales declined 2 percent compared to last April. Mid-size car sales were up 3 percent, paced by Pontiac Grand Prix (up 35 percent) and Grand Am (up 40 percent).

*Avalanche achieved record April sales with 7,945 deliveries, 19 percent over last year.

*In April, Cadillac re-emerged as a leader in initial vehicle quality among luxury nameplates based on the 2004 J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study.

*HUMMER sales were 2,268. H2 ALONE 2,218 of that.
*The soon to be replaced Pontiac Grand Am had a big month, sales (14,347) increased 40 percent.

*Chevrolet (at 235,025 sold last month) sells more cars and trucks than the rest of GM combined. This includes Saab, Hummer and all other GM divisions.

*GM's best selling car continues to be the Chevrolet Impala. It's only 3,300 cars short of outselling the entire Buick division.

*GM's 2nd and 3rd best selling car are the Cavalier (17,217) and the Grand Am (14,347). Ironically, both cars are due to be replaced by the end of summer, and the Impala will be replaced next year.

*GTO sold 650 cars last month. Seville sold 413, XLR sold 339, SSR 966, Saab 9-5 sold 712.

*Chevrolet imports more cars under it's name than Saab (3900 vs 3474).

*Finally, from the dead car file, GM sold: 6 Eldorados, 108 Camaros, 4 Prizms, 42 Auroras, 42 intrigues, and 90 Firebirds.

This makes Camaro the best selling GM car that GM doesn't make anymore.

SSR is out selling the GTO???

Are they still having trouble importing GTOs? I see one on all the dealer lots in my area and still have yet to see 1 driving, finally saw a SSR and 2 300C's. Still havn't had the pleasure of seeing an XLR or CTSv on the road yet.

The only GTO I have personally seen running below $38,000 was the Purple automatic at a dealer in Tolleson Arizona, who decided to sell GTOs at list price instead of jacking it up $5-10,000.

At that price, he says they are moving pretty well. I'm guessing he's getting alot of people from other dealers that have the markups.

*Chevrolet imports more cars under it's name than Saab (3900 vs 3474).

Can you elaborate on this?

They're everywhere here in Winnipeg. I'd bet the Canadian numbers are even more impressive percentage wise.

I think it's odd that the Grand Am sales are up so much given that the G6 launch is just around the corner and the fact that GA sales have declined in the past couple of years despite the incentives. Good to see the Grand Prix sales picking up. I really wouldn't think that SSR sales would outnumber GTO sales.

... kinda make you wonder how many Camaros are still out there waiting to be sold as new vehicles. The supply has got to be drying up...

ROFL. I can't believe they still haven't sold all of them 2 years later.

I went to a Pontiac dealer the other day, and there was a Barbados Blue GTO and 3 cars over was a 2002 35th Yellow and Black TA. I talked to the dealer about possibly taking a drive in the GTO, and he said its been sold, but he asked If I wanted to take a test drive in the TA?
There were also 2 more birds on the lot, 1 V6 and one Formy. Both 2002. The GTO was at MSRP and the color was awesome!

I cant believe they're selling as many DeVilles as they are CTS's. You cant go a block without seeing a CTS around here but I very rarely see DeVille/DTSs. Maybe the old people buy them and dont drive them, vs the CTS which is more of a middle-age person car?

Well, I saw dual exhaust, and the V6 wing. I only assumed it was a Formy.
In Freehold, north of the Freehold mall. Forget the name of the place. Its a Buick/Pontiac/GMC joint.

that's not surprising considering the pricing GM sets on the Saabs. I saw an ad that quoted $38K for a 9-3 convertible!! even with rebates that's 7K-8K too rich. I guess GM just doesn't want to sell cars because they genrally set their prices way too high on everything.

Some interesting sales breakdowns, I wonder how Impala sales would compare to Ford Taurus, Toyota Camry, & Honda Accord sales on a monthly basis.

I am not surprized at the SSR sales vs. GTo sales. I've seen SSR's on the road pretty often. I have yet to see a GTO on the road. Now that the SSRs are on the road and in the public eye, there seems to be alot of hype about the SSR. I've over heard several conversations at work people talking about how they saw one on the road and they have to get one.

The dead car file is very interesting, I wonder how many Camaros and Eldorados a left.

I wonder if you could "get a good deal" on a brand new '02 Camaro or would the dealer be like, its the last one, they don't make these anymore we have to ask sticker or more for it. I've had that happen to me before on '96 ImpalaSS. And then when you go to trade in a car that is not made anymore they turn the tables on you and say, well they don't make this car anymore so we can't give you much for it on a trade-in because there won't be much intrest in the car and it will sit on our lot a long time probably.

Car lots are not right.

Doesn't surprise me, hotcakes are selling like SSR's around here (). Seriously, the local Chevy dealer can't keep one on the lot for more than 2 weeks. The first time I saw one over there I nearly caused a 10 car pile-up...Now I see them everyday.
