GM to reverse closing decision on at least 30 dealerships
Though it was just a month ago that General Motors sent termination letters to more than 1,100 of its about 6,000 dealerships in the United States, the automaker has decided to reverse its decision on at least 30 of those it intended to close. Nearly half of those to-be-terminated dealers have submitted data-based pleas to the Detroit automaker.
GM set up a system to allow dealers whose franchise agreements were not set to be renewed to present the automaker with data defending a closure reversal, reports Automotive News.
Of the more than 500 requests it has reviewed, the automaker has decided to grant at least 30 of those an extension of their franchise agreements, rather than forcing them to close.
Though Chrysler won its decision to close nearly 800 of its dealers, GM is taking a much more cautious tactic.
