GM plans rear-drive family

Lineup to be big, powerful

A large sporty coupe for Chevrolet is also in the works. Outside sources say that car could resurrect the Camaro name.

"The Zeta program, as it's known within GM, is expected to eventually include cars built in plants employing thousands of people globally, including at least one assembly plant in the United States."

I thought that Zeta was dead?

Re: GM plans rear-drive family

I was just getting ready to post this article. You beat me to it.

There was another article too, that talked about new vehicles already in the pipeline. It specifically mentions Zeta? You wouldn't think the Detroit Free Press would be as far off as some of the magazines usually are. Plus, they certainly don't have the lead time before publication that the magazines do.

Weird, 2 articles both mentioning Zeta. You know, the dead program. LOL.

But guys, think only with your business knowledge for a minute. Zeta is a name. A name for research. The research included a platform. A platform that could accomodate and be modified to various vehicles. GM didn't say, "Zeta's through, someone start a bonfire, we're gonna burn all this research." The info is still there. All this did was throw the press a curveball, the GM hating press. (I don't think there was any major press organization a few months ago that like GM's products at all). The press is saying, "wow, what is GM gonna do now?" What this does is keep the press from guessing about future vehicles (and slandering them before a concept is made). Now that the press is in the in dark about GM's major decisions towards the future, you have a media grace period. The public won't hear alot about future vehicle from the press. Then BAM! The public is hit with some staggering concepts and the press will be too late to dethrown the GENERAL.

This is just my take, opinion, of what is going on. I don't have "sources" or "privy information."

The problem with GM is even though they will come out with RWD vehicles, they are once again way late in the game. 2009 is a long way away to me. Good news abotu RWD again, but bad news on how long it will take.

Re: GM plans rear-drive family

I guess I don't have much faith, but I don't really subscribe to the company wide conspiracy hush hush theory.

Reuss has said that they will consider camaro. Articles say, there could be a Camaro. I hate to lose faith, but if it walks like a duck..........

Sure there might be something at NAIAS. But, when is somethign going to hit the street? My guess is late 2007 at the VERY earliest. I would say closer to late 2008.

Yeah yeah, wink wink.

I guess faith is kind of out of the equation for me.

Hate to break it to you, but a 4th Gen. F-Body isn't exactly a small car.

The Camaro was rated a sub-compact based on it's interior dimensions, just like every other car.

My bubble will be burst if the next Camaro comes in the size (physically and weight) of a GTO and loses it's canyon carver, rat racer dynamics.

My bubble will be burst if GM caters to the lowest common denominator around here and just slaps the 'Camaro' name on the most convenient RWD platform.

It lost this with the Introduction of the 4th Gens.
