You miss the point. If Delphi files for Ch11, the UAW workers at Delphi become GM's problem. Delphi's UAW problems might go away if that happens but than they become GM's problem to absorb. The UAW, Delphi and GM have to work this out mutually. What the solution is, is anyones guess.

 

If you have engineers and people above them making idiotic choices to send out junk day after day, Sure they will not care as much about the quality they once had. Does not mean they do not care about their work or job.
Not an excuse just a fact. There are more people who care about the product they build, Then who do not.

I can't speak for everyone, but my salary isn't "half of that" without quite a bit of O.T., my doctor visit co-pay is $55/ leaving a $15 balance for the insurance to pay....why bother?

Forced retirements, buy-outs, and tough attendance policies bent on eliminating sick and injured workers, eliminating any jobs accomodating to sick or injured workers.


Any salaried employee enjoys this basic right...The companies are leaning towards "Core" assembling, meaning MOST jobs are and will be tied to "The Line".
PS: I only get two 15 min breaks, most of which is waiting for a restroom opening, grabing a drink or snack from a machine, and just maybe...sitting down for the 3 or 4 minutes left...Getting relieved can take as long as 20 or 30 minutes, so, don't wait to the last minute..
I saw a sign in "Taco Bell's" window yesterday that said "Openings $9/hr"....and ofcourse you get a free meal in the deal..
Let's see......assembling taco's...vs...assembling trucks... ....yah, should pay about the same.

AMEN!...when you roll vehicles, uncompleted, off the end of the line, missing or wrong or substandard parts etc.; patch them up and ship them out to meet deadlines or escape taxes, forcing Dealers to correct your mistakes, why should any worker care???

 

I can tell you for a FACT that Ford UAW workers have MUCH better insurance than that. In fact I bet that your $55 copay is for Specialist visits and not PCP or Emergency visits. I can also tell you for a FACT that UAW contracted employees have better health insurance than 80% of the rest of the US.

Let me ask a few questions about your INS. Are you the only person on your policy? What is your health profile: age, sex, smoker, family history of diseases? What is your maximum out of pocket expense for the year? What is your deductible? Who provides the insurance? How often do you go to the doctor? If you are wondering what this has to do with anything then you know NOTHING about health insurance. I would really appreciate your answers.

In KY the rate of people without health insurance is like 30%. You should consider yourself lucky that you have the benefits you are offered. If you don't like the plan that YOU signed up for then spend a little of your own money and get better coverage like the REST of us.

 

if a UAW gets 40 hours every week, he gets near 60k a year...

but thats 400-600$ a car... the insurance is like 1500 a car.... but that incudes pensions to retired people and what not so i suppose it works out...

 

I agree that there is more who care than those who do not, however, it doesn't take many "bad apples" to cost the company millions in sorting costs, corrective actions, etc. I can't tell you how many times I have seen junk get sent to the next operation just because someone doesn't use gages. One question though, if the "engineers and and people above them" are sending out the junk, which group of people made it? Again...

 

i build engines, every once in a blue moon the assembly line will outrun the block line, and rather than letting a gap form in the line managment will start throwing in all these bad blocks that didnt make it through quality the first time but since we're in a crunch they will send em on through.

numbers mean more than anything to them.

 

Not even close to the insurance coverage the hourly get here.

Can't force hourly to retire and all the hourly here are hoping for a buyout. In fact, many wont retire eventhough they could cause they think they can smell a buyout coming.

Tough attendance policies? What a joke. You get a verbal and two written warnings before you can even get sent out for a balance of shift.


For one, even with the new two tier, the rates are better than that. Two, I highly doubt that the Taco Bell worker enjoys the same benefit package as a UAW employee.

Or when you make an entire shift's worth of non conforming junk just 'cause you didn't bother to use the gages sitting in front of you and then instead of following proceedure you don't sort your junk out or tell anyone and then do it all again 6 months later...

 

Again, if you are tired of using your gage, rejecting non-conformers, only to have a Super sign off on it and ship it anyways....b/c it's "HOT"....
With shorter and shorter lead times, there's only so much you can do...true?

 

Someone can go on and not use a gage, When they are ordered to quit. using it. I see alot of people not following their proccess due to managment telling them not to "Do it like this-"For now"... Im sure you know the rest of that.




Well, I would depend on who the supplier is of the given junk now does'nt it... Unless its inhouse.. Then it would depend on who the hell said "RUN IT!"
Which leads us back to eng. and high up's. I see so much crap being "bought off" and "signed off" its a freaking JOKE!
