man this guy writes a great review!

hehe--thanks for posting ProjectRS (yeah this is avro206 AKA pontiac_fanatic)

Looking at a granite blue 06 SS right now.

If you can't swing a S/C SS the 2.4L SS is a great, cheaper (albeit slower) alternative.

Is that spoiler the new '06 spoiler? Or is that spoiler only for the non-SC SS models...or is it optional? That spoiler looks so much better thant eh '05 SS spoiler which looks like something out of a JC Whitney catalog.

Those SS wheels need to die, but otherwise

Should provide some heated competition with the Scion tx(or whatever they call that coupe thing, names are a good thing marketing idiots)

Scion TC will be no match. Unless everythong is oredered from TRD and that would get pricey real fast. THe Scions 2.4L redlines at a low 6200rpm while the 2.4L Ecotec goes to 6750rpm! Thats even higher then the 2.0L
Superchared in the S/C.

The wing is indeed the "LS" wing. The S/C SS is still cursed with that horrible ricer wing.

THe rims are 17" copies of the S/C SS 18 rims.

Am I the only one who isn't crazy to downright not likeing the fact that 'SS' is on a car that IS NOT the top performer in the product line?

Nope, I am not a fan of this car either. They should have just added it as another trim option. It makes no sense.

Yeah, but it's still faster than some 6 cylinder 1960's slug that had an "SS" badge, so it's okay buy many around here, I think.

Maybe they could differientiate like this:

ss = 2.4L NA
SS = Supercharged 2.4

Definately not argueing that. Just IMO, with GM history with 'graphic performance' this is a step towards an ugly precidence.

Maybe RS, maybe just 'SSC' (super sport coupe), or maybe mothing.

Could you not get an SS Chevelle with a 350 and a 396 and a 454 in 1970? So people with the 350 weren't driving a TRUE SS?

and first gen had Camaro SS with 350s and 396s (2 different hp ratings at least) Not to mention the 2.4L Cobalt SS would beat a 350SS Camaro

With recent history over the past 10 years, putting the SS on the lower peforming model is a step backwards. Of course they are also bastardizing the name on the 3.8 V6 N/A Monte Carlo.

Re: 2.4L n/a Cobalt SS Pics and Review

I think naming this coupe SS was a good idea. Who cares that SS stood for V8 musclecars in the 60's, that time is long gone and the automotive landscape is not the same. However, the SS moniker is still recognized by the public today and GM is right to capitalize on that. It will help drive sales of the Cobalt more then RS or LS Sport would. As a person in the target audience for this car, I can tell you that just that SS badge puts the car in a more performance oriented light for me. And I guarantee you that people my age (18-25) would agree.

In the end its a affordable, sharp looking coupe with decent performance. What's not to like. I think the SS will be a great competitor to the tC and the base RSX which seem to be the image leaders in this price segment.

BTW Why is the N/A SS not on the Chevy website or GMBuyPower yet? I though they were in dealerships already? I wanted to price one out against the tC and the RSX, but no luck.
